This really isn't a cruise to nowhere. Both ships go to Catalina and Ensenada. The Paradise spends the third day at sea while the Monarch goes to San Diego. Personally I would take a day at sea over a day in San Diego.The Paradise is newer and has larger standard cabins. The Paradise has a water slide while the Monarch has a rock climbing wall.The Monarch will be leaving forever in October 2008. The Paradise will be getting a major make over in December 2008 (I believe that is when it will happen).While I haven't been on the Paradise (yet) I was just on the Monarch and the Monarch crew was the best overall crew I have had the pleasure to experience in eight cruises.
