Carnival Pricing

I have a question about pricing. I booked a category 8p room on the Dream in August of 2009 for sailing April 24th of this year. I looked at Carnival's website tonight and they have a category 8p room (3doors down from mine actually) and it is $500 cheaper than I paid. Will Carnival give me that price or am I stuck with the original amount I paid. I know RCI will give you the lower price if the cruise price goes down. Am calling Carnival in the morning, left a message tonight for my cruise plannner that I would be contacting him. Just curious if anybody has had this happen to them. Thanks!

Since you mentioned cruise planner it is a guess that you you booked directly through Carnival so, yes, get on the phone to your personal CP and tell them that you want the price reduction, excuses from them withstanding. when the price goes down agents (whoever they work for) should go to bat for you and get the discount, $500 is not chicken feed and can buy a lot of frozen thingies, not to mention the satisfaction of getting what you deserve............
One ploy depending on your (there is a word but I won't use it) is to threaten to cancel your booking and rebook at the lower price if they put up a fight, but this option depends on your personal feelings and how important $500 is to you and the response you get from your PCP, start off nice and go downhill from there.

I just booked a cruise with Carnival for the Carnival Valor in April 2011. I was told that if I find a price lower than what I paid up to 2 days before sailing they will credit me the difference. I don't believe you will have a problem getting a refund for the difference. Good luck and I hope you don't have any problems...

That only applies to the Early Saver rate.

We did book through Carnival at the early saver rate. Talked to my Carnival cruise planner , Jeffrey Sutko; and he gave us the line to fill out a form and submit to Carnival. He said the cruise planners do not handle those situations. We filled out the form online and submitted it. We received an email back saying a decision would be made in 3 days or less. I told them in the comment section of the form that I had printed the booking information for the category 8p room which showed the current price and I would be glad to fax it to them if necessary to prove my point. After reading the rules, unless I am wrong, the price difference will be given as an onboard credit. If that happens we are talking about $1080.00, because the fare went down $270 per person and we have booked and paid for two rooms (4 people). That is a lot of onboard credit. I was hoping they would just credit my credit card.

Mustang44 I believe whatever you don't use as onboard credit you can get in cash/check at the end of the cruise. You may have to stand in line at the pursers desk though. If you think you'll have money left over you might want to stop by the pursers desk earlier in the week and ask what needs to be done so you know ahead of time. Maybe they can slip the overage in check form under your door the night before debarkation.

I haven't yet heard from Carnival on this matter; however, the policy says it is a non-refundable onboard credit. So it looks like eitherway they are going to get the money.

The policy for the early saver price protection is that you go to the Carnival web site and fill out an on line form showing the lower fare. Carnival will e-mail you a confirmation that they recognize the lower fare and will issue an on board credit for the difference. (1st and 2nd passenger in the cabin only)

I have done the process for clients a few times and it takes about three business days to receive a response from Carnival.

The final tally is in on the price reduction. Just a quick mention that we are past guests on Carnival and we booked and paid for both staterooms. Now, having said that, what we got was a price reduction on our room only. Since we booked under early saver, and the price that went down was for past guests, we only got the price reduction for our room. Our son and daughter-in-law had not sailed with Carnival before. Even though we as past guests paid for the room it did not make any difference. Carnival said a past guest must be in the room to receive the price reduction. I wasn't too thrilled with the results but there was nothing we could do. That was a loss to us of $540.00.:(

Always amuses me that companies cannot see the big picture. Your good will is soooo much more valuable to them than the $500. They must realize that you are going to tell this story to everyone you ever knew and everyone you meet in the future! And of course, your friends will repeat the story to interested bystanders, etc, etc, etc.

And the funny part is that Carnival is spending big bucks right now on TV ads to get new customers! To quote a great line, they must be stupid, stupid, stupid.

The trick is to book one past guest in each cabin. You don't have to sleep that way but if you had one past guest in each cabin you would have the rate for both cabins. The cruise line doesn't mind. It is done all the time.

Apparently not ALL the time. :(

If you take me serious, it's your problem
well, the way i look at it, if there is a price drop you should get the credit. That being said, i can also see the cruiseline's side of this as well.. they issue the onboard credit to offset the difference while they still get to keep the majority, or all of the revenue you initially spent. It's kind of like the cruiseline meeting you half way. I mena they're not obligated to match a lower fare.. it is customer service to match the lower fare. Also the onboard credit is not such a big deal... just drink a few frozen thingy's, shop in the onboard stores for a few gifts, splurge on dinner in the steakhouse a couple of nights, etc... you get the idea. It's not like you don't get something in return for the onboard credits, but the cruiseline is allowed to make it's margins as well... so the way i look at it ... it's a win win situation.

I mean to be honest you were expecting that you might actually have to pay that fare you paid up front with no guarantee that there would be a price reduction right??? So instead of complaining that you're not getting it back in cash you should look at the bright side.... at the end of your cruise, you will be one of the few lucky ones who do not have a higher than expected funpass account to pay at the end of the cruise...

Meh... kick back and relax and enjoy the luck of getting a fare reduction on an already low fare. My easy saver has of yet, not been reduced... in fact the rates have increased over the last two months.. so i'll probably get no price reduction ....

The terms and conditions of the Early Saver promotion includes a price guarantee so if there is a promotion that provides a lower price, Carnival has to honor the lower price. They offer the guest a choice; either an on board credit for the difference or an upgrade to the category that prices at the rate the guest originally paid.
