Carnival says our son might die on our May 6th cruise

So we booked a cruise for may 6th and carnival called and did a high pressure sales call for cruise insurance. This carnival cruise employee actually told us our son could die in a foreign port because without paying them $300 for insurance we would not be able to get him good medical care and went on to say we all could be in trouble if something happened.:madd:
THEN because we live in New England and the weather is so bad we might not make it to the ship, Im sure we are going to get 3 feet of snow may 6th:hammer:
We are trying to cancel but im sure they won’t let us, but it will be our VERY LAST cruise on this line.
I Will wait till I get back and write a review, but you can be sure our vacation is already ruined and it will show.

Did you get the name of the Carnival employee who gave you that idiotic nonsense? I hope you did, along with the date (and time) of your conversation. I would urge you to report him/her to Carnival WITHOUT DELAY!

You are within penalty period, so you cannot cancel without paying a penalty. Have you cruised with Carnival previously? You might just find that the cruise is wonderful. Don't prejudge based on one idiot. If he/she was that bad, get in touch with Carnival NOW.

Well, I would not have put up with such nonsense and the person on the other end of the phone would have received an ear full. That said, there is a reason I don't deal directly with the cruise lines, and this is just one example. I have a travel agent I am happy with. My travel agent gets a commission, I don't have to pay any extra, and my travel agent takes care of dealing with the cruise lines. Life is good.

While insurance is very important there is a right way and a wrong way to share the benefits of having it and obviously this was the wrong way.
What a bonehead :smack:

Don't let it ruin your trip though. Just get out there and enjoy.:beach:

My question would be...do you have adequate insurance to cover you in case one of these eventualities happens? Indeed people have failed to make the ship and lost their investment due to bad weather (snow storm...yes, where I live they can happen in May, or fire, or flood, or the death of a relative, or a boatload of other things). People have had to be air evacuated from the ship, people have fallen ill and needed to be treated abroad, people have even died while on a cruise and the bodies have needed to be repatriated! While we all hope none of these things happen we need to be very, very aware that they can and do happen all the time. If you haven't already purchased insurance that would protect you for these eventualities I strongly recommend that you do so!!

I knew an engaged couple...young and healthy...who booked a cruise for their honeymoon! A week before they were married the bride to be went horseback riding. The horse stumbled and fell....she landed up underneath the horse. Thankfully all that happened to her was a broken leg and lots of bad bruises...but she was unable to take that cruise! They had been offered travel insurance and declined...they lost their cruise and their $$$$$.

I know someone who broke their ankle on a cruise. The ship sailed....they were in hospital being treated...they had to fly home....No insurance....the medical costs and the flights home came directly out of their pocket and it was not inexpensive!! Same person fell while getting in the car on the way to a cruise in February....broken ankle again! She couldn't cruise! Thankfully this time there was insurance!

You do not have to purchase insurance from the cruise line. It is available through many other companies. It is your responsibility to make sure that you are prepared for events that may cost you lots of $$$$$. Be aware!!

Travel insurance....Don't leave home without it!!!!!

Sorry...it's just my little rant for the day...I hear so often of people complaining that the cruiseline won't give them their money back when they can't travel because someone got ill or was in an accident. They think the cruiseline should refund their money even if they didn't purchase insurance!!! No matter how heart wrenching the story it is my opinion that the cruiseline owes them nothing in these cases!! It's what insurance is for!

Well as someone who is in a similar situation as an aforementioned person in the last post... Let me say I WISH I had gotten the insurance... Things happen that you never think will... In my case... I am a bride-to-be who has arranged to have her wedding onboard Carnival Freedom on Sept 4, 2011... My future sister-in-law (a pro when it comes to cruising) advised me to get insurance because I already have a pre existing condition... Turns out I waited too long and was no longer qualified to get that particular insurance... And dumb me scoffed at getting the other insurance thinking foolishly that nothing was going to happen... Three weeks ago I took a spill and broke my knee very badly... It required surgery and my doctor assures me that come cruise time I should be able to walk onboard that ship...get married...and have a wonderful honeymoon... But I'm still worried... Am working twice as hard with my physical therapist to insure that I can do just that... Get the insurance!

As this is well past the cruise date, can you give us some info on what was done with the complaint? Why the TA told you what they did?
