Carnival Triumph 01/08 Several Questions....

:waveHello all, we are going on the Triumph in January. Can't wait. We haven't been on Carnival in several years and have a few questions...

Does anyone know if you can carry on any alcohol at embarkation, and if so how much? I'd hate to show up with a couple of bottles of wine and have to throw it away or worse yet, stand there and drink it =sleep:)o
There was a post here from last March that said Carnival allows one bottle of "fine wine" per adult, but is there a recent update?

Do the prepaid drink vouchers count toward the frou-frou drink of the day on the pool deck or their re-fills, or at the restaurant, or only at the bars? :)o

Has anyone rented a car and ventured out from San-Juan and is it recommended? We like to do this in St. Thomas, but San Juan seems another story.

We have a 19 year old college son, a 14 year old daughter, and 2 old parents (ourselves). Anyone have suggestions for a game plan for shore excursion to entertain this group (just kind of kidding here, but maybe someone out there has similar demographics and had a great experience?)

The itinerary changes on the Triumph in January from the recent Turks stop to the new....Half Moon Cay, St. Thomas, San Juan, and Nassau. We've got St. Thomas and 1/2 moon all planned, but are there any new "must do's in Nassau and San Juan? We've never been to Atlantis, but we're not gamblers so don't know whether that's for us or not.

If anyone has any time for these questions, we'd really appreciate it.

In Nassau stay away from Pearl Island. It sounds a lot better than it is. The only way on the island is via the boat that takes you there, and it only leaves when the excursion is done. There is nothing to do on the island except swim and sun bath. There is no fresh running water, so if you want any you will have to buy bottled water. After two hours it can start to get boring.

The stingrays (the reason I went) are not wild, they are caged (it is a very big pen - but a pen nonetheless). There was not much food either. If you want to see stingrays, go to Stingray City in Grand Cayman.

What a thought! I don't know where that would fit in my cabin, and I'm sure I'd make a lot of new friends:)-D

I'm quoting below the "official" response I got on the Carnival board from crewmember, Stephanie.

Hi Shauna,

I know some of our other users already responded, but here's our response:

1. How much is the private dining room venue (or do they have one)? The Triumph currently does not have a Supper Club (private dining room). Supper clubs are only offered on the Spirit and Conquest Class ships.

2. How much are the drink of the day at the pool? Do Prepaid coupons pay towards these? Are prepaid drink coupons usable at dinner? There are a few different types of drinks served regularly at poolside; the frozen specialty drinks run between $4.25 and $4.95 without the souvenir glass; with the souvenir glass; they run about $7.50. Drink coupons can been used on drinks that are priced at $5.25 or lower so yes they can be used for specialty drinks but only if they are not in the souvenir glass. Yes, you can use pre-paid drink coupons anywhere on the ship. *There is a specialty drink called “The Fun Ship†that is only served in a souvenir glass; it is $6.75 and it can be refilled only on the outer decks for $5.95. You cannot use drink coupons for these.

3. How much to rent a clamshell at Half Moon Cay and is it hard to get one. I have had melanoma though and must have at least the clamshell thing. Do you do this on the ship or on the island? You can pre-arrange rentals through our Staff onboard at the Shore Excursion Desk; please see the desk for availability, or you may visit the watersports hut on the island. Once your cruise reservation is paid in full; you should be able to log onto carnival.com to view pricing and even book tours prior to your sailing.
4. Do they still have a midnight buffet? Yes, there is a late night Bistro/Buffet either in the dining room or on the lido restaurant. There is a Gala Mid-night buffet on all ships that sail 5 days or longer.

6. Are there still 2 formal nights? Yes, all 7 day cruises have two formal nights; one the second night out and the other the second to last night out. 7. Are you allowed to take any alcohol onboard at embarkation or Pepsi? I have heard so many different comments I don't know what to think, so I thought I'd just ask. I'd hate to have to stand there and drink a whole bottle of wine! Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages onboard. However, guests (21 years and older only) may bring one bottle (750 milliliter) of wine or champagne per person on board only during embarkation at the beginning of the cruise. A $10 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine in the dining room or a $14 corkage fee per bottle in the Supper Club. Guests may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages.
Enjoy your cruise!

I wonder where they pulled the 750ml number out of since it is nowhere in writing...
