Carnival v NCL v Royal Caribbean

We have cruised on NCL and Royal Caribbean. There are several interesting itineraries on Carnival (paradise and jubilee) but we are concerned about the reputation. Any thoughts as to the pros and cons of Carnival?

What reputation???? Oh, I forgot, there was a lot of criticism of Carnival when their ships included the Mardi Gras and Tropicale. Well, that was then, and this is now. Carnival did not become the world's largest cruise line because it offered an inferior product! Having sailed on RCCI and Carnival 4x each, I can tell you that their offerings are on a par. Where one excels in one area, the other excels in another. As for NCL, I would rate them a notch below either Carnival or RCCI. Of the ships you mentioned, go for the Paradise. She is the best of the best among the Carnival fleet.

Now grant it, I've never sailed RCL or NCL, but My wife and I are more than pleased with Carnival in terms with service, price and itineraries. Only thing is I've only been on the larger ships but my wife went on the paradise and she keeps trying to get me to choose an itinerary on it, but I just couldn't pass up the Conquest this fall :p

Like Cruzman said, Carnival did not get to where they are by being a bad cruise line!

I booked our first Carnival cruise last September. Right after that, I started reading some of the bad reports on them and I had second thoughts.

Nothing could have been further from the truth!

I'm not sure what some of those people expected but out first Carnival cruise was fine, in fact it was GREAT!

I am looking forward to our next cruise with them.

(and the pizza at 2AM is wonderful) :)

Agree with Cruzman on this. I feel NCL is below CCL or RCCL. I also feel that if you are into the informal dining/buffet, CCL's lido deck on her newer ships especially, has better quality and variety than RCCL and that includes their Voyager class, having just been on the Navigator. I do think that you have to compare CCL's new ships Spirit/Conquest/Destiny class more so than the older ships and their fantasy class.

This is really such a matter of personal taste!

I have sailed on the three lines you mentioned, on multiple ships in each line.

For my money, RCI is first choice and I would choose NCL (newer ships) over Carnival. I was on the Sun in April and had a good cruise. I sailed on the Fantasy when she was brand new and the Inspiration three years ago and would never choose to sail Carnival again. I am sure I will get slammed for that on this forum but we are all entitled to our own opinions. This is why there is more than one cruise line out there and I have friends that just love Carnival and don't cruise any other line. We just don't cruise together!

I am in my 40's, enjoy an active cruise with lots of activity and nightlife and sail solo or with friends. I have been on 93 cruises. There is something out there for everyone. Yu just have to figure out your personal style and see what will work best for you.

We are booked on our 4th cruise on Paradise this September and can't wait. I think this speaks well for the reputation they have with us.

I was just on the Carnival "Pride"... no glitz, just glamour. What a beautiful ship!!! I've cruised on RCCL before and the Pride was a notch (or two) above!!! People need to cruise Carnival's new ships before lumping the entire fleet together!!!

Honestly, I think Dean has a good point that can be applied to ALL lines. They all have new ships coming out and if you haven't been on Carnival since before the Destiny class, try out the Destiny, Spirit and Conquest classes.. they are simply amazing! I've been on the Pride and Destiny and will be on the Conquest in Sept. Can't wait!

I agree its all personal taste. I was on NCL Masjesty last year and on Paradise this last May. I had a great time on both. Personal I liked the freestyle meals on NCL better. I thought the atrem in the middle broke the decks up more on Paradise. or maybe im just use to the older ships like the old Swedish American line. and I liked the band on the Lido deck better on NCL. But I was very happy to be on Paradase and yes Id go again, But I like to try different ships and there is a lot out there.
