Carnival's Holiday going away?

Seems as though November 2, 2009 may be the last sailing of the Holiday in the fleet. I know that the Celebration and Jubilee have already been liquidated from the fleet leaving the Holiday as the only Holiday class ship. I have sailed her twice. Does anyone have any information? Is it true that she might be going away?

It seems as though the Holidays days are numbered indeed. Carnival has held onto this ship for a long time as it was at one time one of the highest performing ships in the fleet. But since the ship is over 25 years old I believe it is time to move on. Mobile will be getting the Carnival Fantasy so at that time it would only make sense for Carnival to swap out the Holiday for good.

The Holiday is the smallest and oldest ship in the fleet. Carnival is building bigger and newer ships. It was pretty clear that the Holiday's days were numbered.

The Holiday will be sailing it's normal itineraries through 2009 with the final sailing Nov. 2. She is then scheduled for a month long drydock and refurb after which she will be transferred to Ibero Cruceros, a Spanish line in which Carnival Corp has a financial interest. She will be renamed Grand Holiday. As mentioned, the Fantasy will resume sailings from Mobile Nov. 10 with a one time 6 day cruise followed by the normal 4 and 5 day rotation. The Fantasy is also scheduled to make six 7 day sailings from Mobile during 2010.

I think Tiff and I are going to book this little ship for next month since it's going to retire. Great rates and only about a 5 hour drive.

Hello addicted cruisers (LOL)

I live in Tn. which the port is a short drive for us as well, I was wondering if you knew what ship will replace the "Holiday ship"? We may end up taking a cruise from the Mobile Alabama port next time to save on HIGH price plane fares=twocents

Ok let me see if I get this. Carnival Fantasy ship will start sailing from Mobile Alabama November 2009? I hear that the Fantasy ship is quite nice, but I'm wondering if it's a smaller ship compared to some of the bigger fleet's like Valor,Liberty and such. I want to sail from Mobile next year, which is a semi short drive from where I live in Tn.

Currently the Holiday is the oldest and smallest ship in Carnival's fleet. Once it leaves, the Fantasy will be the oldest and smallest ship in Carnival's fleet. However, there are seven other ships that are the same size as the Fantasy in Carnival's fleet. Still, the Fantasy is the oldest of the eight.

Oh I see. I think I will cruise on the Fantasy that way I can compare the difference between the larger and newer ships versus the oldest and smaller ship:thumb I'm sure we will have just as much fun on the Fantasy, besides it's all crusing to have fun and to relax:)

I hear the Fantasy class ships are very nice since the dry docks and addtitions they have made recetly
Good luck!

That's sad to hear. I sailed on the Holiday back in 2001, and had the time of my life. It was a wonderful journey through the Southern Caribbean, and I met a very pretty lady on board. It will be sad to see her retired. Bon Voyage, Carnival Holiday! You will be missed!

Hello,
We are booking the Holiday in October ( haven't set a date yet) and the Triump on Feb 20th. We would like to go once more before the little ship is dry docked. It may be the oldest ship in the fleet but it has character and fun ship to cruise on. We will miss her. Looking forward to seeing all of you and our fellow Louisiana cruisers.

The only newer, larger ship that does shorter cruises is the Destiny out of Miami. All the other short cruises are served by the Fantasy Class ships. =sailor

The thing I don't understand is why people are unwilling to pay $20 per person more to go from a 5A to a 6A. On a seven night cruise that's only $2.86 per person per day, not even the price of a cocktail. $4/pp on a five night cruise, $5/pp on a four nighter and $6.67/pp on a three night.

When you break it down, it really isn't that much.

I mentioned that I had heard the Holiday was going out of service for Carnival to some crew people while on the Triumph recently, they hadn't heard about it yet. I was rather surprised by that as it was crew that had been with Carnival for some time.
