My fiance and I never check our bags at the airport, we carry on. I have been reading on the site that you must put your luggage outside your stateroom at night, with the colored tags and you'll get it in the morning. Is this absolutley nessesary or can we carry our own bags off the boat. Also the morning we leave wouldnt to put our dirty clothes hairdryers toothbrushes makeup and the like,, somewhere??? I fly spirit because they are only 5 min from my house, and we can only carry one travel on per person. So i guess my question is cant i bring my own bag off the ship?

If its just carryon that you're bringing, then yes you can carry your own bag off the ship. Usually on the last night everyone keeps their carryons to put the overnight articles you spoke of in.

I have never had a problem with carrying luggage on or off of any cruise line (Carnival, Princess, HAL, Celebrity, NCL, RCCL and Cunard). Usually I take one carry-on case with wheels and a duffle bag. If you were to attempt to carry-on a large suitcase, however, it may not be able to fit through the X-ray equipment at check-in, but you would not have any problem at debarkation.

We've done 3 cruises on Princess, all carry-on luggage only. No problems. We don't bring formal wear, so we have enough space in our roll alongs. You don't need hair dryers, as they are provided in each cabin. Each ship we've been on has self service laundromats, some free, so it's easy to get by with fewer clothes.
One advantage of carry-on only is you don't have to wait for your luggage at disembarkation, so going through customs is a breeze.
