Does anyone know of something good we can do in Casa Del Campo? We will be on the 5/11 sailing of the Paradise. Any help would be appreciated.

We did the Saona Beach Tour (7 hrs.). First you ride on a bus for about 20 minutes to Bayahibe where everyone boards power speed boats (around 12 - 15 people per boat). They took us to a natural pool for a little while for swimming and to see starfish - then on to Saona Beach for swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, relaxing, etc. They served a nice barbecue lunch. Also gave out rum & coke drinks. We returned to the buses by catamaran. It was $85 per person. I thought it was the best tour offered - except that I couldn't really enjoy myself. When I was boarding the speedboat to get to the beach, I slipped and fell very hard. Hurt my lower back and was in great pain for the rest of the day (had many rum & cokes to ease the pain). This happened on the 4th day of the cruise - and the last 3 days I spent on the ship were unbearable for me. The ship's doctor told me to keep putting ice on my back and take Tylenol. Luckily, nothing was fractured - just badly bruised with compression on my sciatic nerve. I'm on pain medication and muscle relaxers even now. So - a word of warning - the surface of the speedboat floor is VERY SLIPPERY. They made us take our shoes off to wade out a little to the boat. Maybe if I hadn't been barefoot - this wouldn't have happened.

Thanks for the reply, Cindy. Ouch, back pain is terrible, and I'm especially sorry it had to happen during your vacation. I have heard about Saono Island and it sounds really nice. However, you can be sure that I will be VERY careful on the speedboat. How was the water? Was it warm and clear and did you see many fish, etc? Also, the natural pool sounds interesting. I hope you are completely recovered very soon.

Peggy: I guess the water was clear (I don't remember too much because of the condition I was in) but we did get to see and handle a few starfish at the natural pool . However, when you went into the water at the beach, it was nice for swimming but the bottom had lots of rocks which made it hard to walk back to shore.
