Can someone please explain the procedures for playing in the casino? We are trying to decide how much cash to take with us, and wondering if you have to use cash in the casino or is there another means of tokens/money/credit card or other.

We have our credit card tied to our room. They give you cash that is applied to our credit card. At the end of the cruise it's on your final statement from Princess, with drinks, excursions, any purchases you made on board. I think they have an atm machine, but I didn't use it, because I hated the extra fees. If you have cash, of course you can use that as well. My husband always just an amount and when it's gone I pull him out of there by his ear!! Princess has their tokens also.

Please know there will be FEES attached to any casino play, whether you use the ATM or whether you put it on your on board account. If you don't spend more than a couple hundred, no big deal -3% fee for casino cash. Otherwise, take your own cash/travelers checks.

Another new and wonderful change the cruise lines have made recently.

hi, just back from emerald 19/04/09.
i preferred to use cash too, slots take dollars no problem.
when you want to cash out, you insert your room card, select credit to CARD account not ONBOARD account.
when youve putin your date of birth and a pin number, the machine transfers any money/credits to the card.
then you go to the cashiers window, present your card and they give you the cash youve accumulated.
you can also leave it on your card(doesn't show up on your statement) until the end of the cruise then cash in!!

You can also "gift" yourself with Casino credits ahead of time. These are like cash but paid for in advance. There is no service charge for cashing these in so its better than taking cash and buying credits on the ship. Of course if you use your room key and transfer money to your card, there is also no fee.
