for casual dress, is a sports coat required or is a golf shirt acceptable.

We were on the Millie 2 years ago and the only nights my husband did not wear a jacket were the casual nights. The golf shirt or casual sport shirts will be just fine.

My husband usually wears a jacket with a sport shirt on casual nights, but it's about 50/50% with/without jackets.
