We're looking at Category BC, B601 and B603 right now. Looking forward to comments. I 've read that the balconies below are larger but I'm more concerned because I can't tell what the corridor opposite these rooms might be. Is it just an open corridor or is it the steward's work area?

What cruise are you going on? As far as the nooks and crannies, we can't help you there. Sorry

The balconies below on Caribe are larger, but that would put you into a higher category - BB. B601 or B603 are fine. It's a blank wall across from where your cabin would be, you won't hear anything coming from behind it. I prefer more forward, around near where B319 is, because sometimes there is more vibration toward the back of the ship.

On the Star, there aren't any "secret" cabins in this category. Personally, I prefer those further aft on Aloha rather than those forward as in this class, most of what you'll be doing is aft. All I found I was going to forward was the Princess Theatre, Spa (Children's Center if you have kidlings). Pools are center and aft, Horizon Court is aft, dining rooms are center/aft.

If you prefer more mid-ship, then Baja. The cabins and balconies are identical on Baja and Aloha. Only downside to Aloha is that some cabins may be under pool areas where you *may* hear a bit of noise from the chairs being moved around. If you're noise sensitive, then I'd choose a cabin in the rear section on Baja.
