Cave Tubing... can't swim!

I have read many posts about cave tubing in Belize (quite honestly it sounds like it's about the only thing to do there!). I really want to do this, however my husband can't swim. Is this a problem? Is it deep or rough water? I am planning on signing up for excursions soon so I can cut my costs closer to the sailing date (not until October!), but I don't want to pay for something if my hubby can't do it.

Also, I have read many great things about Regtours and a couple of other tour companies, but I have this terrible fear about missing the boat. Are these guys usually on time? I think if you book an excursion with Carnival, they make sure it ends on time, but what about private tours?

When we did the cave tubing we were in less than a few feet of water for the entire trip. In some spots, we had to get up and walk. However, we were told that the river's depth totally depended upon the rain. They said that a few weeks prior to our time there (June of 2003), it had rained so much that the river was high and the water moved you through the caves in 30 minutes. (it took us 2 hours)

Even so, you're in a tube and life vests are available.

We did the cave tubing with reggie last month. It was great. Not to worry about getting back on time they have been doing this for a long time and know what they are doing. If your husband can't swim I think it would be best just to wear the life vest and not have to worry. Reggies tours are far cheaper than the cruise line offers. Our cruise charged $96 and he charged $60 plus it was another $5 for lunch. The cruise lines trip went to one less cave than we did, we had 8 people in our group and they had at least 40. Also feel free to email Reggied and I'm sure he would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

We really enjoyed our cave tubing adventure with X-Stream Cave Tubing and when our guide ask if there were any non-swimmers in the group, we did have one lady. We had the option of wearing vests some did, some didn't, she of course did and the guide kept a close watch on her, as well as all of us:)

I don't think its a problem, you'd be in a vest and floating on a tube, as long as you can paddle with your arms you should be fine. She had a smile on her face so I think she enjoyed it as much as the rest of us!

Thank you all for the input. After showing him the pictures and stuff, he seemed a little more at ease. I think we'll be going cave tubing after all! Thank you thank you thank you!

Hi, I recently took the tour, it was fascinating, and my family loved it. To be honest, I'm not a great swimmer, and I had a young child with me, but the tour company I took was very good. They took extra precaution with my child, so I felt very safe. I was honest in the beginning and told the guide that I was not a good swimmer. The company I went with was A-1 Travel, I paid $60.00, and they took us to areas that no one else went. Our guide really made it lots more fun. You can email them if you like at attbelize@hotmail.com, or call them at 1-877-5BELIZE. Tell them Fred sent you if you decide to try them. They were a little bit more money, but they met me INSIDE the Tourist Village, and brought me back to the same area. I felt completely safe and got back on time. Our tour was also a bit more than others in that we went into the open river and were swinging off vines jumping into the river. Our experience with A-1 was truly "AWESOME".
