We will be on the Legend this Thanksgiving. We are looking forward to cave tubing on our stop in Belize. Can anyone help with pros & cons of booking with Carnival or a private vendor, besides the obvious cost difference.

Vendor names and good or bad experiences would be appreciated.
Also group sizes with Carnival Cave tubing tours.

Thanks.

We booked our cave tubing tour with Reggie Trapp (regtour.com). His van was waiting for us right next to the cruise terminal in Belize City. Reggie charges $45 per person for his cave tubing tour and and I would highly recommend him based on my own experience. He is very thorough, actually gets in the water on a tube along with everyone else; secures your personal belongings in one of his vans and offers assistance in every way possible. On the return trip to the cruise terminal, he will stop off at a local restaurant where you can experience locally prepared food if you wish, or just grab a beer and explore the grounds. Good luck on whatever you decide!

The Carnival group is large and they share tubes with other cruise ships, which sometimes delays the tour.

We booked with cavetubing.com on the legend in Feb. Yhony Rosado answered all my questions with prompt replies. The local companies will be cheaper, but you do run the risk of something happening and missing the ship. The ship will wait for their tours but not private. He had backup vans and we were schedule to be back in plenty of time just in case something did go wrong. The guides were great and we had a great time.

Just remember that if your late back to the ship due to unforseen circumstances the ship wont wait if you book through them they will. Have fun.

I have always booked excursions through the ship and have never had any problem and have always had a great time. They are always very organized and it's the total "tourist" experience and I just love that !

I'm going cave tubing in Belize in Oct. and I'm sure it will be tons of fun !

We did cave-tubing.com last month and had a great time. We did 2 caves versus 1 cave thru the ship. We paid $45 a person versus $90 (0r 95) a person thru the ship. Also, we didn't have to do any work. They had each family hook together and our guide pulled us along so we just laid in the tube, relaxed and took in the sights. We saw people from the ship struggling because they were sent down the river by themselves. Yes, if you miss the ship, you've got problems but most companies get business by word of mouth so its in their best interest to get you back in time. I talked to our tour leader about it and he said they'd even drive us to Costa Maya (our next stop) if we missed the ship. Also, he asked how many people found cave-tubing.com on the message boards. So they know how important it is to give you a great experience. If you have any more questions, please let me know.

From the "for what it's worth department", I've been scanning the cruise boards for a number of years and I have never read of an incident where a tour in Belize (private or otherwise) caused anyone to miss their ship. If anyone knows of such an incident, I think we would all love to hear about it. I myself have often booked private shore tours in Caribbean ports; never even a close call in getting to the ship on time.
