cave tubing

Is it necessary to have tennis shoes as well as water shoes during this shore excursion? We plan on doing the cave tubing in Belize. We want to take the least amount of things on the tubing so we don't have to worry about a place to put it. One thing we were concerned about was if you have a hike before the tubing, they may require certain types of footware.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I read somewhere on another post that the people brought old sneakers so that they could just throw them away when they were done. I believe you will want some sort of sneaker/water shoe.

Water shoes, aqua socks etc. will not give you any support during the hike and will slip off as you walk. Pebbles also are nasty once inside your shoe. Old or cheap canvas sneakers or Teva style sandals, worn on the hike and in the water, (often your feet aren't in the water when you are floating down the river) work out fine. Wear your swim suit and bring a change of clothes if necessary. I wore a mini t-shirt dress over my swim wear and just quickly changed from the wet suit which was almost dry when we got back to the bus. I had a wrist strap for my underwater disposable camera and that was it. Chew gum for moisture. You carry your tube and wear your headlamp on the trek to the river.
Bon Voyage

We're booked on X-Stream Cave Tubing and in our confirmation they say you can were tennis shoes or strap on sandles, the velcro type or booties/watershoes. They say to bring a change of clothes and they are left in the van so you can change after if you want.

From what I've read the walk is fairly easy so I don't think you will need tennis shoes but if you want to wear them I'm sure it will be fine. The water is fresh water so it shouldn't ruin you shoes, you might just want to bring another pair that are dry for afterwards so you aren't sloshing around:)
