Need some suggestions. We have booked a tour for the morning, which is completed by 11:30am and we would like to plan an island tour for the afternoon including Hell, Turtle farm, seven mile beach and tortuga rum. Are there private tour guides you can suggest to contact before we go there? Should we just hire a taxi to take us-what are the pros and cons to this? Are we planning too much? The only shopping we are planning is rum cakes and rum.
Please help. We leave in 3 weeks!! Yeah!!!!!!!!

Air conditioned cabs line up right there at the tender dock. For about $10 per person any one of them will gladly take you on a tour of the Island including the Turtle farm, Hell and the Tortuga Rum Factory.

Thank you very much. Sorry for the delay in answering. Could I ask a couple of more questions-silly as they may seem? Will they wait for you at each stop? Is there some special sign to look for such as licensed or registered type of tour guide?
Thanks

Don't worry . Grand Cayman is a VERY small island, the tour guide will not leave you!! I'd skip the tour and just go to Seven Mile beach, Hell is a dumb tourist trap. just a stop in the middle of nowhere , and a "field" of volcanic rocks that look like stalagtites(sp ?) . The turltle farm is just that , A farm for turltle meat, the turtles are crammed by the hundreds into VATS . Of course there is a shop attached, not that you can bring turtle stuff back with you if you are flying ( it's considered endangered, even though you got it on a "farm") they will tell you can, but you can't.
The beach however is stunning!!!
I know this is a negative review, we just thought it was a waste of time, it was a cheap tour ( only 10 bucks) but you get what you pay for sometimes, and we really wished we had more time at the beach!

My wife and I have been to Grand Cayman four times on cruises and twice on "island adventures". Grand Cayman is one of our favorite islands in the entire Caribbean. The taxi drivers there are great and just love to show off their island. They'll take good care of you and take you anywhere you want to go. (They're also happy to share island history, current politics, local island gossip, their family medical history and just about anything else you can think of. ;o) )

You didn't say if this was your first trip to Cayman or not but if you're interested in doing Hell, the turtle farm, etc. I say go for it. Yeah, they are a little "touristy" but if you don't get there this time around and never have a chance to get back there you'll always wonder what it was really like.

That's our general travel philosophy and, I guess, our philosophy of life in general. When the time comes to take that last trip into the sunset we don't want to say: 'I wish I had one more day because I really wanted to ........". Go for it now while you can!

On our only visit to Grand Cayman 2 years ago, we did the Turtle Farm etc. tour and thought it was OK. For first-timers in GC it's a nice tour to take. We took the opportunity to send postcards from Hell to friends & relatives. The postmaster dresses up like the Devil. Corny but fun. We'll be back there in December, and we'll probably try the Stingray Sandbar excursion this time. We don't mind paying the cruise line prices.By the way, the Tortuga Rum Factory has a terrific website. Here's the link: http://www.tortugarums.com/Instead of lugging rumcakes home with you as baggage, you can order a variety of cakes (many flavors) for direct shipment to yourself or to gift recipients. Prices are about $30 each I think. Take a look at the site, and have a fun cruise.
