CDS "Entertainment" on Celebrity

Has anyone actually been to/see/experienced the Circ du Soliel "stuff" at the Bar on the Edge of the World? I am thinking about booking a cruise with them, but this sounds like it could be really lame. Any firsthand critiques of it yet?
Thanks in advance.

If you go back into some of the reviews of the ship, you will find some pretty detailed information about it by some of the passengers who experienced it.

If you go to CruiseCritics dot com and thereafter to their Celebrity forum, you'll find a couple of reviews
based on voyages late in April of this year. I've not seen the Celebrity Cirque presentation, yet, but I
believe from all I've read from those that have that it has evolved quite a bit since its original introsuction.
So, I would rely much more heavily on recent information than on any that is dated.

I was on the March 19 sailing of the Constellation...so this is a first hand report...
They had one "White Nights" Ball - Masks required, white apparel requested (to aid with the lighting effects)..."House" dance music, pretty loud...

The other nights, it is basically just a weird bar...with weird entertainment...
Rather than having, say, music and dancing...or karaoke...or a piano bar guy...they have a number of lighting effects and strange music and several costumed characters are introduced, one at a time, do some schtick onstage and then wander around the room, individually interacting with the patrons...

Don't think of it as much as "entertainment" as it is an unusual place to hang out...
You are either going to go "huh? what the heck is this and why am I wasting my time?" or you are going to think "Cool. Different. Let's hang out there and have a drink"...

But don't think of it like you're going there to watch a circus...

I'll say it again and again.....What a horrid waste of time with our favorite place at the late night dance club. Why did they have to change it to something weird. Celebrity portrays itself as classy, not weird. We're going on Connie for the third time in November and I hope (against hope) that they do away with CDS before we get on.

Newest postings at another board say the worst part is they made it a dark ugly room so no daytime viewing out those large windows--they are all blocked by curtains! That used to be the best place to watch the sea, whale watch or just hang out........not to mention dancing aftre the show every night to a live band! What a waste!

Just off Constellation Baltic cruise. With respect to CDS, the "experience," as it is referred to, is weird at best and has met with very mixed reviews. Personally, I'd rather watch grass grow. The original plan was to have CDS on all four Millenium-class ships. The plan now is to have it only on Summit and Constellation. That has to tell you something. Can't believe Celebrity is locked into a long term contract with Cirque.

Working for lawyers I know that "contracts" even long term ones can be broken. Of course Celebrity would have to weigh what it will cost them to break the CDS contracts as opposed to just letting them "run their course" and not renewing them. I hope the changes they made to the Bar are just cosmetic and not something that can't be reversed.

We just retiuned from the May 6 sailing on the Summit to Alaska......The CDS show seemed to be more interactive but on "white night",passengers seemed confused about what was going on on how to react.
The bar emptied out by 11:30. They did have a disco but the music was lame (by that i mean stale and
tired)They did offer alot of tasty food, but no one seemed to know it was available so our table ended up with what amounted to a meal. Drinks are expensive and we found the decor UGLY....The waiters looked strained in their costumes. The cast did various acts on the dance floor as well as some platforms . They begin the night with white curtians drawn around the dance floor and project various pictures, when they remove the curtian you dance a bit then all the characters interact with the projections on the curtian behind the dance floor. The interaction is a bit strained, although we belive they are trying to tell some sort of story. The mosaic floor in the entry way is beautiful with smoke pouring down as you enter.
We did go to the bar several times during the day and they are keeping it open so you can enjoy the somewhat limted view. If you do go during the day garb one of the forward beds and a book. It's very relaxing.
The other nights the bar is open for dancing but it doesn't attract very many patrons. It's a great place to plan your own group party because if you insist they manage to pump up the tempo a bit and every one dances and has a good time.
We think that once the contract is up the bar will be history. This seemems to be a try out for CDS who is intrested in opening clubs with this theme in various cities...We wish them well but as far as we're concerned
The Bar at the Edge should be pushed over the edge.

When is the contract up? Hope before our trip next March on Summit.. Do the waiters also dress up? Sounds awwful! Where does the pool/party band play at night if CDs has taken over the lounge? How about daytime viewing from the curtained area?

Hi Ho!

I saw CDS in Atlanta during the 96 Olympics and absolutely was blown away by the show. I am sailing the Summit in Dec (was on her in 03 and is my fav ship of 12).

After reading about the "Lounge" I too would be curious if anyone knows the latest on their contract or how they have changed the experience since it first came out. I really hope its gone.
