Celebrity a good choice for Teens?

I am considering both Celebrity and Royal Caribbean for a 2008 Bermuda cruise, and am having trouble deciding. I see from the boards that Celebrity is the "hands-down" way to see Bermuda. Also, in comparing the itineraries, Celebrity spends more time docked in Bermuda than Royal Caribbean.

From word of mouth, I have heard that the crowd on Celebrity is older. I am planning on taking my two sons, who will be 17 and 22. They will also have friends the same age.

Will they be out of place on Celebrity. . . is Royal Caribbean a better choice as far as interesting things for them to do?

Thanks.

I'm not that experienced of a cruiser (only 4 cruises) but I have sailed Celebrity a couple of times always in the fall when most of the younger crowd was in school. Although I would say that on my fall cruises there were people of all ages I would tend to agree that it leans toward a more mature group. From research I have done for a possible family cruise I personally would consider Royal Caribbean because of the activites: rock wall climbing, ice skating, etc. With young people the itenerary is also important. A good TA should be able to give you some guidance on ship & iteneraries. You might ask this on the main board where I think you will get more replies & a quicker response.

I'm not sure what RCL ship goes to Bermuda but now the only X ship is the "New" Journey. Smaller more upscale and likely more pricey. I doubt if it would be a really friendly teenage ship. Now the 22 yr old would likely be OK as I'm goin with you saying that it's a summer cruise. Once in Bermuda I don't think it would be all that important regardless as the ships generally stay in one or two places all the time right?

The M class X ships generally carry all ages particularly over the summer months.
But a RCL ship over all has a younger crowd.

I was 21 when my family and I cruised on Celebrity for the first time. I liked it--it was very luxurious and the food was outstanding...But my 17 year old brother was bored to tears. He couldn't gamble, drink or get into the bars with my parents and I. The "teen" clubs are too "kiddie" for 17 year olds. I have heard that RCI is much more geared toward fun for that age range. My next cruise will definitely be on RCI to liven things up a bit.

PS Celebrity & RCI are owned by the same company.

Hope this helps!

Cara,

Thank you so much for your input. I now know that my teenager and his friend would most likely enjoy themselves much more on RCCL, and that is the way we will probably go.

Nobody should be bored on a cruise!

yea i was on the celebrity century when i was 21. ports were great and food was the best, but sea days were miserable because most of teh stuff was geared toward older crowds. most of the shows were definitely geared toward an older crowd. i mean a cruise is a cruise, but for a younger person, im sure Royal Caribbean would be a bit better.
