I recently booked my first cruise on Celebrity.
We are booked upon the Century for an Ultimate Carribean adventure in febuary 2006.
My question is this... is the Century a good first ship for Celebrity?

Hard to say. Perhaps if you give some idea of what ships you've been on and what types of amenities are important to you, we could chime in with info.

OK that sounds fair.

We have been on 3 prevous cruises one on Carnival aboard the ecstasy
two times on HAL onece upon the Ryndam and once on the Oosterdam.

I guess when it comes to amenities Im just looking for us to get spoiled.

if you can understand me.

I sailed on her in Dec. and loved it. It is rather sedate, nothing like Carnival. (although I enjoy Carnival) The dining room is beautiful. A stringed quartet played nightly. Somewhat like HAL, although I prefer Celebrity. Sailing next week on the Horizon to Bermuda. Have been on her before to the Carib. i don't think you will be disappointed.

Yes, we pre tip, but you don't have to. we find it easier. Only $70/pp for the week, let them wack it out. We don't tip the maitr'd or wine steward since we don't use the wine steward and the maitr'd only makes his presence the last night!
It is a very conservative ship and I would return on it for the dining experience.
Enjoy.

Just got off yesterday. Wonderful service... I do not pre-tip. I do it in person and prefer it that way. More personal I think than a voucher. I will say that I was a little surprised at the condition of the common ares. The furniture in all the lounges and the sitting areas was very worn and overly used. It was kind of a turn off. I will say that everything wa very clean, and the servivce was A-plus.We sailed the century the last 2 years and she has really gone down condition wise, we were told that it would be the end of 2006 before she goes to dry dock. She will be really rough by then. I think we will try one of the newer ships in the future.

The cabins, dining room and the outside of the ship are fine. And I must repeat the service was excellent. The quality of the food was excellent, the show entertainment was excellent, the lounge entertaiment was so so.The disapointing part was all the common areas and some of the lounges, the furniture was sagging and pretty well worn.It was not what we have come to expect from Celebrity. They are supposed to be a premium line and charge premium prices I just think they should keep things up better than they have done with the Century. I will contiue to use Celebrity, and will do the century after she has been refurbished.

I just got off the Century also. Having primarily been on Carnival, I say WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Being on comparable aged ships, the Century is in great condition. I never really noticed the wear described ablove. I can definitely say my family is hooked!

CENTURY WAS THE FIRST CRUISE I SAILED WITH, AND LET ME TELL YOU I AM IN LOVE WITH IT, EVERYTHING IS WELL PLACED, AMENITIES ARE ALL AROUND, SERVICE IS OUTSTANDING, FOOD IS MARVELOUS, EVERYTHING WELL KEPT, YOU NAME IT. IT IS WONDERFUL, I BELIEVE IT IS MORE CHIC THAN ITS SISTERS THE MILLENIUM CLASS SHIPS.
HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME THERE, AND DO NOT THINK TWICE OF GIVING TIPS AS THE CREW'S BASE SALARY IS VERY LOW.
