Celebrity Coupon

Has anyone had this happened. I received my credit for the coupon in the Celebrity Newsletter. I received $105 instead of $125. I called Celebrity they said it had to do with my TA's commission. Doesn't really bother me, I just wish the TA would have told me.

AL this means a couple less drinks..

I was told the same thing by a TA one time, but my regular TA applied the full credit.

This is something that your TA is doing. I am a TA too and when I send their coupons in they take the entire amount on the coupon off. Your TA apparently is keeping 20.00 as commission, which I personally think is sleazy.

Thanx for the reply JeanMarie. I wasn't sure about that. We had already decided this was going to be the last time we use this TA.

The Captain members have been receiving coupons with the club news letters. Are repeaters who have not joined the Captains Club also getting coupons? Thanks, W.B.

Same happen to me but as cheap as the fare is I did not mine the travel agent not giving us full credit . That coupon would lower their commission and after all I did make a commitment to them and they have been by far the lowest fare that we could get on every cruise we have taken. Believe me I price every cruise with at least five agents.

The newsletter and coupons are for captains club members only - one of the perks you get for your $35 membership. They do have your captains club number on them so I guess they are not transferable.

The coupons plus the one category upgrade (non-balcony or suite) are well worth the one time $35 fee.

HI HOOKED,
IF YOUR T.A. IS GIVING YOU THE MAXIMUM DISCOUNT THEN YOUR T.A. DESERVES THE $20 BECAUSE IT OFFSETS THE FURTHER DECREASE IN COMMISSION THAT CELEBRITY TAKES BY REDUCING THE PRICE OF THE CRUISE.
BP IS RIGHT. A GOOD T.A. WILL LET YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE MAX DISCOUNT THAT THE LINE OFFERS BUT THE COUPON GOES BEYOND THAT MARGIN.
CONVERSELY, A T.A. WHO IS GIVING BACK THE FULL $125 HAS PROBABLY CHARGED MORE.
NOBODY BEATS MY T.A.

Hi Hooked. Did you book with a consolidator? We booked our cruise through one and they specifically state that they honor the coupons at 80 cents on the dollar because of the discounted price you are already receiving.

Still not a bad deal - I'll sacrifice $20 on the coupon for an extra $100+ discount on the initial price.

Well, we are booked on the Zenith and when the price dropped we got a 3 cat upgrade to a better cabin. Then we also were creditied for our coupon. My TA had the lowest quote and I KNOW she did not charge more..:))

My guess is if your travel agent gave you the full discount value of the coupon you probably did not get the lowest fare for your cruise. Remember every agent has to make money on a cruise booking. When they feel they have taken the minimum commission they need to stay in business, there is not much room for them make less money that is what the coupon forces them to do. That lower fare lowers their commision.

HI SPENDER,
IF YOUR T.A. IS WORKING ON THE MAX 15% COMMISSION GIVEN BY CELEBRITY (HE OR SHE MUST SELL MORE THAN $500,000 YEARLY WITH CELEBRITY) THEN YOUR T.A. CAN GIVE YOU A SET PRICE THAT REFLECTS THE FULL DISCOUNT WITH A NOMINAL CHARGE ADDED. (I KNOW OF ONE T.A. WHO WILL GO TO A FLAT $50 CHARGE PP)
IF YOU THEN USE A COUPON THE NET DEDUCTION WOULD REDUCE HIS COMMISSION BY APPRX. $50 SO THE T.A. WOULD THEN BE WORKING FOR NOTHING.
I HOPE THIS SHEDS SOME LIGHT FOR YOU.

Sorry Ross, Whatever commission my TA works for is a function of what he/she has deceided they need to do business. If Celebrity (or any other cruise line) offers a discount to the passenger, it is meant for the passenger and not the TA. Credits are for the passenger, not the TA. If the TA dilutes his commission to a flat rate of $50 or anything else it's his BUSINESS DECISION. If it's a poor one I feel bad for him but it's not a reason the passenger should suffer and pay extra for it.

I hope this sheds some light for you.
