I am a Diamond C&L cruiser on Royal Caribbean, an Elite Captains Club member on Celebrity...and a "veteran" of five other cruise lines as well including multiple cruises on Princess, Carnival and Oceania...
I really like Royal Caribbean though it's the ship and amenities that make it stand out though the food is passable and the service good...
Our service on the Mariner in January surpassed the service on the Sapphire Princess the January before and I did not think the food was altogether ifferent on the two...The Mariner was easily the nicer ship...
However, if I were cruising strictly for food and service, I have two choices that stand above and beyond the rest: Celebrity and Oceania...
Oceania's food is flat out outstanding and the service very good...
But the price is considerably higher...
The service and the specialty restaurants restaurants, IMHO, even surpass the same on Oceania making Celebrity, by far, the best value in the market...
Among the things that sets Celebrity apart is the space-to-passenger and crew-to-passenger ratios--which are much better than what you see on RCI, much, much better than Princess...and, of course, blow Carnival out of the water...
I will likely never book another Carnival cruise after my overcrowded, poor service experience in July 2007...and my Princess cruise last January will likely not have me running back to Princess...
I will cruise with Royal Caribbean due to them having the clearly best ship in our local market and due to their innovative ships...I will cruise with Oceania (and likely try Azamara at some point) for the smaller ship luxury experience...but, for the best of all worlds, Celebrity is always my first choice when looking for a cruise...
