Hi - I'm brand new to this forum and SO glad I found you guys! We're getting married Memorial Day Weekend of 2005 and are in the process of booking a cabin on the Millenium for the Barcelona to Venice 12 day cruise.

Neither of us hav eever been on a cruise before and know virtually nothing about cruising. At this point, however, the most important question is the room.

We're planning to book Sky Level, Room 9012. Will this be a noisy room? I know nothing about which parts of the ship are noisy, vibrate-y, etc. My mom (who is giving us the cruise as our wedding present) is worried that it may be below jacuzzis which will have jets running 24-7 and be noisy & disruptive.

ANY helpful hints are appreciated. Thanks in advance! I'm sure I'll have many more questions over the next 9 months!!

Hi Jenny,

I am not familiar with your room location, but possibly someone can help you with that. I n general the ship is very quiet and the cabins we have been in are well insulated and quiet. The Millennium is the first cruise ship to use gas turbines (like aircraft jet engines) to generate electricity that powers the motors that are mounted in pods outside the ships hull. This eliminates noise and vibrations associated with diesel engines and long drive shafts. Most evenings you will not even realize you are moving unless you look outside. At times you will experience some vibration in the dining room, but this is the quietest ship I have been on.

Hi Jenny -

Wave to me as you leave the ship...we'll be doing the reverse cruise on June 20th. A quick look at #9012 shows you're below the hair salon and/or the men's changing room for the on-board spa. I don't think there will be much noise from above any time of the day unless someone's hair is extremely noisy when it falls after being cut.

You are located in the fore (front) of the ship which can be a little upsetting if in rough seas if you encounter them because you'll pitch up and down. And being on such a high floor you could roll side to side alot. I doubt it though because you're going at a great time of the year and the time at sea is not extensive as you're at sea just 8 - 12 hours a day most days and doing stuff for about half that time. FYI mid-ship eliminates most of these concerns.

Have a great trip!

Go to the Celebrity website (I think it is www.celebrity.com) and click on fleet or ships and find the Millenium, then click on your deck and you can see exactly where your cabin is located. Then click on the deck just above that and you can see what is directly above you.

As to location vs. movement...the higher you are and the farther away from the mid-ships position, the more possibility you'll feel movement. So, ideally, if you wanted to minmize that sensation you would book a cabin mid-ships and on the LOWEST deck.

HOWEVER, these ships are large and they are well-stabilized. DO NOT give up your current location because of concerns about possible pitch and roll...it would be a minimal concern at best, in the Med, on a ship this size, at that time of year unless there were a MAJOR storm (have you ever really heard of one in the MED????) and if that were to happen, EVERYBODY would be pitching and rolling..
Have a GREAT cruise!

Hey, Jenny, this is one of the best cruises and shps out there...it will spoil you for all future cruises...

As for noise, being below the spa is just fine...You just don't want to be below moving deck chairs!!

The itinerary is great...
