Celebrity/NCL vs. Carnival

Hi guys! Greeting from the island of Tennessee!

Cathy and I are planning our 5th cruise since 2001 (they were not kidding when they said it was an addiction). We've been on Carnival 3 times (Paradise, Pride and Glory) and RCL once (soverign of the seas).

We're considering trying something new this time around...

NCL Majesty (would cut 5 hours off driving time...and we're interested in freestyle)

Celebrity Zenith/Horizon/Summit (for a longer cruise...Zenith has a CHEAP ($700 pp)14 night with a great itinerary, Horizon and Summit have 10-11 night cruises)

We're 30, don't really like getting dressed up a lot, and enjoy the mindless fun of game shows, comedians etc.. to vegas/broadway, we don't drink or gamble...we want time to relax but want the option of having lots of activities to choose from.

What are going to be the major differences we notice between Carnival and these ships? As always thanks for the advice.

From your statements of what you like you are best off on NCL or RCI, not Celebrity. Celebrity is a "dress up" line and not as active as other lines (after HAL, it is the least active major lines). And that cheap Zenith cruise will probably be a very cheap version of Celebrity. I made the mistake of sailing on a discounted Celebrity cruise, and it was substandard Celebrity, not the usual quality of Celebrity. $50 a day is way too low to spend on a cruise line that defines itself as "premium".

Also, there's a big difference between the ships you are thinking of. The Summit is a new ship, very luxurious (came into service in 2001) and is 91,000 tons, and features Celebrity's specialty restaurants. The Zenith and Horizon are Celebrity's most modest ships and came into service in 1992 and 1990 and are a bit less than 50,000 tons. They have no balconies.

The NCL Majesty is a converted ferry that was stretched and doesn't compare well to NCL's newer ships. The RCI ship you sailed, Sovereign, is one of RCI's oldest megaships and doesn't offer the amenities and features of RCI's Vision class or the more comtemporary Voyager class and newest Radiance class ships.

Just finished my first Celebrity cruise; if you don't like formality and want to do some partying with a relaxed group of people I think NCL would be a better bet. We have cruised all 3 lines.

SHANNON AND CATHY!!

It sounds like it's time for NCL of one of the mega ships on RCI.
