I know there are good and bad points about each. But simply said, which is better?

Well, it's sort of an easy call for me: Celebrity...no contest...

Of course, cruise lines tend to differ even internally ship to ship and itinerary to itinerary...
My comparison is based on my last two European cruises

August 2001 to the Baltic on the Crown Princess--10 nights
August 2003 to the Mediterranean on the Celebrity Millennium--13 nights

It may be a slighty unfair comparison in that the Crown was then an 11 year old 72,000 ton ship and the Millennium a 3 year old 91,000 ton ship, so you can take that into consideration...

However, being as subjective as possible...not only was it a "no contest" overall, the Celebrity cruise blew away the Princess cruise in EACH and EVERY category...

Obviously, the Celebrity ship was far nicer, more modern, in better condition...but it was also roomier, better designed and had far more amenities...

In addition:
Entertainment: Celebrity was "good" while Princess had the absolute worst entertainment of any cruise I've ever been on...Comedian was old, stale and generally not funny, xylophone player was the best show...The piano bar guy had more talent than all of the main showroom talent put together...and Princess had no late night shows...if fact, the whole ship was virtually "dark" by 11:00 each night...

Food: After all the build up, the food on Princess was average at best, Celebrity--better...

Service: Dining room staff was excellent on both, but the crew elsewhere on the ship on Princess was somewhere between unhelpful and nasty...Everyone on Celebrity went out of their way to be helpful...

Style: Princess was surprisingly tacky compared to the elegance and class of Celebrity..

Amenities: Blame it on the disparity in ships but Princess was lacking on everything beyond the basics...Celebrity had so much we didn't have the time to avail ourselves of all she had to offer...

Note on late night and extra food: Celebrity had a susshi bar with an extensive choice open 4 hours nightly, free ice cream every afternoon and Pizza available late into the night...Princess had none of this...and the pizza place closed down at 10 or 11 nightly...

In my book, there's no reason to cruise on Princess when you have Celebrity available...

I haven't found the bad point about Celebriy yet. Also enjoyed Princess but not as upscale as Celebrity. Princess is fine but no Celebrity.

We sailed Princess once (Sun Princess) and leave on our 15th Celebrity cruise next week. Princess is good, but Celebrity is better.

We really like both cruise lines, but if we had to pick only 1 it would be Celebrity. They really are a class act. We have and will go on Princess again though.

An easy thing to keep in mind when comparing cruiselines.

3 star - Carnival, and Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian
4 star - Princess and Holland America
5 star - Celebrity

I hope this helps.

When cruising you can't go wrong.

We are fans of Celebrity and about to take our third cruise with them in 3 weeks. We sailed on Princess to the Mex Riviera in Feb because we got a very good deal from the UK.
We have booked Princess again in Jan 2005 because Celebrity do not cruise to New Zealand and Australia. We were pleasantly surprised on Princess, comparing it quite well with Celebrity, but would choose Celebrity first for their food, service and overall ambience.

Being totally subjective here. Have not yet to experience Celebrity. But will get the chance this Dec. But loved Princess. Really nothing to compare it too. 15 years in between cruises. But loved the Ocean in Alaska. Don't think there can be alot of complaints on how Princess does on Alaska. The Ocean has been retired now, and what a shame. We loved Princess. Maybe we will love the Millie more. I guess we will see. What ever you decide love your cruise. Kat

If both lines had the same Itinerary I'd go with Celebrity, but would not hesitate to go Princess again.....they were almost as good........Let Itinerary and/or price be your guide.

Have been on both Princess & Celebrity but if the itenerary is the same I would take Celebrity as the service is absolutely wonderful & the food may be a bit better as well. However, if Princess were to offer an itenerary that I like better I would not hesitate to sail with them again. Which ever way you go I'm sure you'll enjoy your cruise.

Simply said, Celebrity.

I think Celebrity's food and service are a bit better, but I think the entertainment is a bit worse.

I enjoy the fact that Princess will have 2 or 3 stages which provide different options for the nightly shows.

I am a big fan of both cruiselines.
