Does anyone know if you HAVE to use (rent) the Connect @Sea kit to use the wireless network on the M class ships? I know if you don't have wireless on your laptop you would, but I am curious as to whether after forking out big bucks for blocks of air time you have to shell out another $10 a day just to access it.
Anyone know for sure/done it?
Thanks,

I believe the answer is yes. You see, you can ONLY connect through the ship's satellite. So without an adapter, you can't connect. Frankly, I never understand why people bring their laptop when you can just use the internet cafe and pay the same per minute prices.

I wish I could tell you but I haven't done it myself. I can tell you that my iPhone logged right into their cell network without being asked and it cost me a few bucks when we got home for roaming but I have never used my laptop to connect. I just check my e-mail with my iPhone when we are on shore. Works fine in Alaska and most of the Med, so far. We will check Mexico on a cruise in two weeks.

True enough...anywhere near land mass, you can use your cell phone to access the web. Open seas are spotty. I prefer to sit down at a PC and just read and type. I usually buy the $80 package (forget how many minutes that is) and do my banking, investments and e-mail from the cafe.

You can do that for a small fee at the photography area. It's far better than dragging along a laptop. They'll download and store all your stuff on a CD for you, as many times as need be.
