Hi, we are booked on Summit for the Med on Oct. 18th, taking the eastern route from Venice and ending in Barcelona. I'd love to hear from anyone who has already been on this route. Tips, tricks, good, bad etc., whatever you'd like to share. Thanks,

Welcome...
Fraid to tell everyone you're from Hog town?? lol
I'm a big fan of the M clas ships but we have never been over to the med and unless we win the lottery and can go first class or maybe take a ship across the pond to get there likely never will. Sitting in a silver cigar tube for that long is beyond me . :)

There are some reviews in our review section in the pull down at the top of the screen which may help if not ask specifics and I'll check my links with buddies to get you some help. Although there are lots of folks that frequent this "Board" we don't have a lot that do the Med. but they are around somewhere.

Again welcome and enjoy your planning

The wife and I did the same cruise last November, on Millennium. You can find my full review there, that gives
specifics on each stop. In short, it was a fabulous cruise which we enjoyed quite a bit. The only drawback was
that the itinerary made for some very long days out on excursions. (The two days in Rome were 10 hours each,
most of which was walking.) Take good comfortable shoes!

I don't know how familiar you are with Europe, but I would highly recommend that you get a couple of books on
the most important ports. Getting some of the Vatican and Roman history in your head before visiting Rome will
make that visit much more rewarding in my opinion. The same is true of Florence and its art, if you choose to go
there, versus Pisa. You must visit Pompeii when in Naples, and Ephesus when in Kusadasi. Both are very
impressive, world heritage sites and they will amaze and amuse you as well as educate you.

If you have specific questions, fire away and I'll do my best to answer them.

Ted

I might be afraid to live in Hogtown! Besides, why not be proud of living in Canada's 7th largest city (even if it's a suburb) with the world's oldest mayor! Thanks for your response, I'm diligently searching all boards I can for reviews for Summit in the Med. I have been on Celebrity once before in the Caribbean, and loved it. However, I've seen some very poor reviews of Summit; most of these are prior to dry dock earlier this year, and I don't worry too much about some of these. I'm just curious whether the general tone of reviews will have improved. Doesn't really matter, 'cause I'm not cancelling! Guess I'm just trying to fill the time until I board.
Hope the weather on the left coast is better than what we've been getting here!

Hi Ted, thanks for taking the time to respond. Just finished reading your review, and found it excellent! Some very good tips, especially regarding Rome and Villefranche. We're going about a month earlier than your trip, so hopefully the weather will be excellent as well. The comment on the Turkish band was hilarious. Reminded me of a singer on our last cruise, English was not his first language, and his version of David Lee Roth's "Just a Gigolo" will stay with me forever. "...everywhere I go, people know the part which playing". I can't hear that song now without substituting that mangled lyric. He had a pretty good voice, though!

Wow....Hazel and her pack have control over the guys that's for sure. :D

Enjoy your time planning. I have found that the reviews and comments from folks that you don't know on the net are generally loaded towards those that have an axe to grind. We here have come to "Know" each other and more than a few of us have met or at least have met someone that has met other @ddicts. Spend some time lookin' around..

PS..our weather has been better than yours since my brother went home to Kingston near the end of June. It's his fault.

Hey, Seabob, glad to have someone to blame for this summer! Good point about the posts, I take them with a large grain of salt, but interesting to read them anyway.
Well, back to the grindstone so I can keep paying Hazel!

Hi and welcome to cruise-addicts.

I would read the reviews about the Celebrity Summit in the cruise reviews section. Just Select the Celebrity section and the reviews are all right there. I agree with BSeaBob about some cruisers who had a cold cup of coffee and then bad mouth a particular cruise line because of it may be classified as having an "axe to grind". There have been, however some significant problems in the past with the Celebrity Summit. One of these cruises I happened to be on and the experience and treatment by Celebrity was not good at all. My review is posted in the Celebrity Summit review section. Most Celebrity cruises do not turn out like mine but what was reported in my review is exactly what happened and anyone who could put themselves in my place having had that kind of an experience would think that if this happened to them they would not have a lot of respect for Celebrity. When there are no mecahnical problems, the Summit offers a good cruising experience.

The Summit has not had any mechanical problems since my cruise and your cruise will probably go fine and I hope you have a fantastic time!
