celebrity vs. princess

I've cruised both (and I've also cruised on Premier, Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean)...

In my book, Celebrity stands out, far and away, as #1...

I was very disappointed with the entertainment on Princess (awful)...the itinerary we took (Baltic) was far inferior to the Baltic itineraries offered by Celebrity...The ship we were on (Crown Princess) was thoroughly lacking in amenities...Food availability late night was virtually nonexistent...Dining room food and service were both good, but still slightly short of Celebrity's standards...and the crew aside from the Dining Room were unhelpful and unfriendly...

Celebrity, OTOH, to my experience, has been near perfect...Food and service outstanding, ships' amenities outstanding...and the Millennium, for example, was the least crowded ship we've ever cruised on...fewer passengers per gross ton...cabins were ample, public spaces ample as well...And all the small details are handled with the utmost in class...

Been on both,, Celebrity hands down. Nicer crew, more friendly and bigger cabins.

We just returned from our first Princess cruise on Grand. We had a Grand Suite. There was no comparison in service. The suite was about the same size as a Royal Suite on Celebrity (what we usually book), and was exceptional in decor... but the service was lacking in the suite and throughout the ship.

Having said that.... We will look to book Celebrity in the future, but Princess was not so bad that for a REAL good deal, we might sail them again. The ship was lovely and the sailing as smooth as we have ever had.

We are boarding the Galaxy this Friday for our third Celebrity cruise in 12 months. The cruise line is our new favorite. We were previously on the Mercury and the Infinity.
We have also been on two Princess ships; Dawn and Royal. Princess was fine, but Celebrity is a rung or two higher on the ladder. Dining and service are noticeably better.

Celebrity is our favorite cruise line :thumb They have the best service, food, and the ships are great. Princess is good, but Celebrity is even better.

great question maqooq...

I have been searching for several months for the next cruise. Each time I think I have it narrowed down I read or learn something else about another ship. This time after talking to a TA, I thought we might consider Coral Princess so have been researching that ship...but also comparing it to Celebrity's Galaxy - pretty much the same itinearies.

Been on Millie once and an upcoming cruise in nov. on Brilliance, so wasn't sure if we wanted to try a third line or go back to Celebrity.

Now thinking that perhaps Galaxy would be the best choice of the two...

If you were comparing Galaxy vs Coral - what would you have to say about the two?? The itinerary will probably be a 10-14 nite Panama, either large balcony or small suite...looked at the SS rooms on Galaxy on Sky Deck...

Your thoughts are welcome.............

We sail Celebrity often, but just finished our first Princess sailing on Grand. We book Royal Suites on Celebrity and had the Grand Suite on Grand.

The suite was wonderful, far more luxurous than the RS on Celebrity, but the service was very lacking. Although I'll consider Princess for other trips, I really prefer what we get on Celebrity! It is a different type of cruise - not bad, just not what we are used to receiving on Celebrity.

We've taken several Celebrity and one Princess. Maybe it's unfair to use one cruise and craw universal conclusions, but my budget is not limitless, so my less-than-statistically significant sample tells me not to waste any more money on Princess. Service, food, ambiance all better on Celebrity. Did like the freshwater pools on Princess, though.

It is obvious that both lines offer different experiences. I think that if you are laid back and looking for a less structured cruise then Princess might be your choice. For those of us that enjoy a more traditional experience with an upscale atmosphere and good service with traditional dining times in beautiful surroundings...then Celebrity will probably fill the bill.

It is always interesting to hear the views of those who have done both. I have always said, "Each cruise is different". I just talked to a friend of mine who was on Celebrity Constellation in April and had a terrible time. I have another friend who will never go on Princess again because of the terrible time she had on the Dawn Princess. You just never know what will happen as all of us have known plenty of pax who have had spendid experiences on both of those ships.

It takes all kinds of cruises and cruise ships to make the world go round...that is why we have both lines: Celebrity and Princess.

I would sail on either cruise line and have a great cruise :thumb There are many things that we enjoy about Princess and think it is a great cruise line. I just can't help liking Celebrity the best, but would enjoy Princess also. Just get me on a cruise....soon :jump
