Has anyone sailed both Carnival and Celebrity recently? If so, is Celebrity's food really better than Carnival's? THanks.

I'm strange, I know! I always liked the food on Carnival, but I must say that the food on Celebrity ships is better. It is MUCH better in the buffet.

Sorry, IMHO, I disagree. I am not a foodee or gourment either. I was very pleased with the food on Carnival compared to Celebrity. Their buffet stations had wonderful variety including fresh omlet/egg stations at breakfast. Asian, Nation of the day, Rotisserie, Deli, Pizza & calzone as well as hot dog & hamburger grillIs open longer hours than on Celebrity. There is self serve ice cream throughout the day and their Juice/coffee bar is open during the day, which it is not on Celebrity after meal hours. In fact I found the buffet superior at breakfast to the main dining room menu. What is slightly different is the selections for appetizers, soup & salads are nested together on the menu, but you can still order one of each if you wish. They do not have a sommalier on Carnival and they serve the bread individually rather than leaving a bread basket on each table.
Enjoy your cruise not matter which line you choose. The new Spirit class Carnival ships are beautiful not glitzy as in the past. Cabins are bigger than Celebrity, too.
Bon Voyage

Well, no matter what anyone says, the food on Celebrity is without a doubt better. Look on these boards, in reviews, and in cruise books. Celebrity rates at the top. That is what made them famous, back in the early 90’s. They rank much higher compared to any of the other 7-major cruise lines. On Celebrity, all food is made from scratch, not pre-packaged like on Carnival. The preparations, ingredients, presentation, and service in the main dinning room is far superior to Carnival, or any other major line. The training that the staff goes through is unrivalled. People can tell me about there bad dining room experience on their ONE Celebrity cruise all they want, but overall, the service in the main dinning room is always better than any other major line. On my 11 Celebrity cruises, I have only had one time where I was disappointed with the service, and that was on the Summit. On the Millennium-class ships, one can have the opportunity of dining in the specialty restaurants, by far the nicest restaurants at sea. They are better then the main dinning room on even Crystal. The food in these restraints is superb, and well worth the minor cover charge. Celebrity’s 5-star culinary operations are run by Master Chef Michel Roux. He creates the menus, and designs the service. He owns a 3-star Michelin restaurant in England, one of the nicest in the U.K. I hope that this has answered your question Don, and Nanatravel. Everyone is entitled to one’s opinion, but, obviously, Nanatravel has had an incomplete cruise education, although I in no means have intended to offend you.

I think there is no comparison that Celebrity's is much better. With that said, it is all in the eye of the beholder. Celebrity's food is very European in flavor and taste. They use different sauces that might not appeal to all.

I have yet to be on a cruise (11 total on Celebrity, Princess, HAL, RCI, NCL, and Carnival) where I didn't get enough to eat. Some were much better than others, but I still got my fill.

You might find that you like Carnival better. You won't know until you try.

I think Carnival's food gets a bad rap. We've sailed with Princess, Carnival and Celebrity and my wife and I both agree that Carnival's food overall was better than any of the others. The service and presentation may not be as good, but the food was excellent.

If Celebrity's food is a 10 then Carnivals is a 4. Have to say Carnival has good pizza. We found the Buffet on the Pride to be very good, altough the food in the main dining room was mediocre at best.

Hi, having been on two Celebrity cruises, one Carvinal, two NCL and one Princess...none of the meals were bad but Celebrity certainly gets my vote for the best meals.

nimiq,

You are right on. If I don't have to cook it or clean up after it, then it is a special evening and a great meal!!!

After 10 cruises on most lines I have determined that for my taste, Carnaval lags far behind Celebrity in most aspects, food, service attitudes, cruise staff attitude, class in general. There has been some small fall-off since RCL took Celebrity over but still far superior to Carnaval in all areas. Just returned from an 11 day Hawaiian cruise on the NCL Wind. An older smaller ship but the food and service were outstsanding. You can't go too far wrong on either Celebrity or NCL in my very humble opinion. We also found Princess acceptable but some of the menu choices were questionable on occasion. Personal taste I suppose, and remember, there are no really bad cruises.............

We are definitely FOODEE'S. We chose Celebrity for that reason. 4 women traveling together. The food has to be nothing short of the very best. Cruised Princess last year and the food we thought was very fair and nothing more or less. We are expecting a lot and don't thing we will be disappointed. The Aqua Spa and Words and Notes won us over. We all have different tastes and we thought Celebrity would be the best for all our likes and dislikes. We will see. Kat

Been on both Celebrity and Carnival in the last year and Celebrity wins, hands down! Celebrity has better tasting food, presentation and service (though my waiter and assistant on the Legend were of Celebrity caliber); and their alternative (pay for) restaurants are much better than the alternative (pay for) restaurants on Carnival. One place where Carnival might have a heads up in is the length of time their buffet is open and the 24 hour pizza (but the quality of this food to me is fair at best.)

I've done both and enjoyed both. Celebrity is a little more exotic, which I like, but you can always have the basics.
