OK. So, on those ships that have contracted with AT&T, the roaming charge is US$2.49/minute, in addition to your basic plan's use charge (per call/minute). That's not too bad. Until you start totaling it up ...


Using US national averages for cell phone use (voice and text), you're looking at roaming charges of US$2077.07 per week for your typical cruise family (two adults and one teenager). And, that's in addition to whatever your provider normally charges for connect time.


Here's how I figured it -

Average call - 3 min 15 sec

Adults - 204 voice/month; 357 text/month

Teens - 231 voice/month;1,742 text/month
