Is there reception for Verizon Wireless cell users in the US Virgin Islands and St. Maarten? I know there are no verizon towers but is there roaming capabilities there?

I also have Verizon wireless and am traveling to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Maarten...I called Verizon and found out that you can 'rent' a 'Global Phone' for $2.50 and then pay $1.50 per minute to use it; OR you can take your cell phone, and provided you are able to get service, just pay the roaming fee of (in my case) .69 cents per minute, plus the use of your minutes. I've also heard you can get international calling cards at your first port and use them on any pay-phone...I think I'll take my cell phone, plus buy an international calling card just to be sure. Happy travels!!! Tammy

I used my Verizon cell in San Juan and St Thomas with no problems at all. I had no roaming charges, I am on the national plan. I hope this helps!
