Century Excursions

I was just starting to look at the different options for shore excursions. If we were to choose not to do an excursion at a particular port, do we have to stay on the boat or can we get off and walk around and do as we wish? Also, do people typically choose just 1 excursion? Most of them are more than 5 hours so I think just 1 would be all that time allowed. I appreciate any suggestions. We depart Ft. Lauderdale Aug. 14-21. Thanks

I've never cruised before but my husband has and we're getting ready to book on the century. You do not have to book a shore excursion, you can do whatever you want. You can get off and walk around or take a taxi somewhere you want to go. You can even book your own excursions without an outside company. Frommer's Caribbean Ports of Call book has some great info on things you can do on your own and it also rates some of the excursions. 1 excursion per port would be the maximum I would think you can do!

I have not cruised century, but have the zenith and horizon. On some I did my own thing, walked around, shopped, went on excursion, on others I went through the ship for booking. When time is tight, such as in Naussa I am going to book through the ship I think. (I am going on the Century in Sept). In St. Thomas I am going to make it to St. John's on my own, probably to cinnamon bay ( maybe trunk bay ) and I am also going to see some of the historical building in St. Thomas on my own. In St. Martin I am going to cab it over to the French side and go to Orient beach. On SSan Juan, not sure, may go to the Wyndham or I am finding out where else to go from a friend who is going there on vacation this week. Just make sure if you go on your own to have plenty of time to get back and plan to be back at least 1 hour before the ship sails for safety sake imho. deb

HI KID!!!

If yu want to save money...do your own thing on the islands. You can grab a cab and get them to take you anywhere the tour goes. Split thecab fare with friends.
