Hi All,
We are sailing on Century Eastern route in Dec. The itenerary shows that we arrive in Puerto Rico at 4:30 pm. There are only 4 shore excursions shown on the list from Celebrity. What do you do in Puerto Rico from 4:30pm to 12:30am. Isn't everything closed?

We went on that cruise in May. There isn't much to do at night in P.R. and I would not recomend wandering around alot. I don't know why they arrive so late. Then the other thing is you will not have enough time in St. Marten. I do love the ship though, just the right size and the service is excellent. The entetainment was very good and the food quality was top's you will enjoy it very much.

We got there almost exactly at 4:30 when I was on the Century. My girlfriend and I walked through Old San Juan to El Morro. At that time there were still several shops open so you could browse as you walk. The fort is closed by this point I think, but you can still walk around the outside and its still a great view. We then simply walked back, and stopped for a drink or two along the way. As long as it was still light out, I didnt feel unsafe. I guess it depends on when you go as to how early it gets dark out, but it was just getting dark when we got back to the ship, I dont remember the time though. We had plenty of time to walk around and take pictures though. After that we just stayed on the ship for the rest of the evening.

My recommendation is to walk around old san juan soon after docking, and around sunset head back to the ship. Most of the stores in old san juan sell nothing but a bunch of trash (typical tourist stuff) and will close around 8pm.

We arrived a bit late in San Juan, almost at dark. With an infant with us, we got off the ship, looked around very briefly, and reboarded. San Juan after dark is just a bit of a scary place. We had a very uneasy feeling. We are sailing from there in November so maybe we will get a better taste of it then. You will LOVE the Century!

You will love the Century. But I will have to say that I think that they should try to get into port around noon time. Any other cruises we have been on get in between 12 and 1 p.m. that works out much better than the planned 4;30 p.m.. I would not recomend wandering around San Juan alone after dark, especially new San Juan, it can be very hazourdous to your health.

You will love being on the Century and the only two negatives are the short time in San Juan and St. Marrten. Once off the ship you'll find all sorts of guys offering tours for like $10. We did one and got to see alittle of new San Juan, a beach for a photo stop and then the fort and into Old San Juan. We stayed in Old San Juan for a little shopping ( the shopping isn't great but not horrilbe either ). We then walked back to the ship. It was dark but we didn't feel that unsafe because there were lots of others walking back to the ships also.
