The Zuiderdam front desk tried that baloney with us but it did not work. I am unconvinced HAL takes the gratuities and shares them with the service personnel according to their posted guidelines.HAL is trying to convince their customers they are doing us a favor by automatically adding the gratuities to our final bill. I think their employees are at a disadvantage with this system and it may even affect the service which the employees render to us. How do we know our gratuities will be given to our designated servers in addition to their regular salary?Not all servers are equal. When we have a server who is attentive and goes beyond normal expectations, we are going to tip them over and above the normal. I would hope the server would hold onto the money.
