Dave, you probably need to fill us in on age range, life style, have you cruised before and things like that? Every line has a nitch and each offers something unique. What one would love about HAL someone else would rather be on NCL> Just a thought.

Either will be a nice cruise. All things being the same I would choose Celebrity as I think the food is better. Neither will be a party cruise nor will there be many kids on either. Has been a couple of years since we sailed on HAL but they did have great service, a step above most everybody else.

Me and my wife are in around 50, and we will be taking our kids who are in their late teens. We have only gone on one cruise, Costa Tropicale two years ago along the Brazilian coast (we live in Brazil). However I want to to take a cruise to the caribbean in June of next year. We have never been to the Caribbean, even thougth we have traveled all around the world, mostly asia. I hope this helps thanks!

Sorry I forgot to mention that we are looking for a relaxing cruise, with good food, good service and a ship that can cater to our kids who all like to have a good time. One last thing, as this is going to be our first trip to the Caribbean, which one is better the West or the east? thanks again!

I think from what you have told us, that you would be really delighted with Celebrity. They know how to do it all, food, service, and so many things to do for just about any age group, while on board. As for which cruise to do, East vs. West. Thats a hard choice, although most people i know enjoyed doing the eastern Caribbean. St. Thomas and St. Marteen, is very popular, and if you are doing more than 7 day cruise, it is even better. We have done both the 10 and 11 day deep caribbean and Ultimate caribbean on Celebrity, and doing it again next March on the Summit. We did the 10 day this past April on Summit and had such a wonderful time, one of the best cruises we have had out of 16 cruises we have done. We tried the others, but always go back to Celebrity. We have been on Century twice and it only has gotten better. Hope this helps.

With the kids going I would say Celebrity would be the best choice. Eastern or Western is a toss up. We trade every year last year was Western so this year will be Eastern. It is nice to find a ship that stops at a private island for a beach day, lots of water sports! Either of these line has great service and food. I think you will find a few more kids on Celebrity in June.

With those two lines in mind, I would say Celebrity for sure. Neither are noted for having lots of young people, but Celebrity will have more and being summer time I am sure the children will find kids their age. We are taking our 21 year old and 17 year old grandaughters in just a few weeks now. They can hardly wait.

If you are going to be coming from South America I might suggest that you cruise out of San Juan for the Southern Caribbean. Most of the cruises are port intensive so you will get to see more islands with a wider variety between the islands. If your children enjoy active vacations there are many options on each island.
The Constellation is one of the larger Celebrity ships and has a wonderful itinerary for a 7 night cruise. The kids should love the ship too. There are 10 and 11 day itineraries too. HAL sails out of Florida and has fewer island stops. The Z is supposed to be a very nice ship. We do the Caribbean every year and prefer the island choices of Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. The only drawback to the Western Caribbean itinerary involves the potential stop in Jamaica which I would not recommend unless you hire a guide before your trip. It is definitely not a place to let your children explore on their own.
The last couple of cruises that we took our teenagers on we let them take part in the itinerary selection and it turned out to be two of our best cruises.

Always Celebrity!

I'bve been on the Century for 2 times. The first cruise was the Eastern Caribbean. I thought the 7-night-cruise was too short, because after 4 days they start to tell you how to get off the ship at the end of the week.
So I did a back-to-back-cruise one year later (last November).
The Century is a very elegant ship, not that big, but you will be proud to be a guest on it!

Your teenies will love it as well (I'm 30yo old now, but I sometimes feel like 29).

If I would have to decide for one of the two itineraries, I would prefer the Western Caribbean. You will have more time to explore the islands because the destinations aren't too long to get there. I wouls also say that there is more to do on the islands. climb waterfalls in Ocho Rios, swim with stingrays in Grand Cayman and visit the excavations in Mexico. It's a good mix between action, culture and relaxing!

Thank you all for the responses!. When I first started looking into taking a cruise in the caribbean, Celebrity was high on the list, mainly because the service and quality looks slightly superior compared to other the other lines. However, HAL's private island looks amazing. If we decide to go, im positive well have a good time on either ship. THANKS AGAIN!
