Changing cabinmates

Has anyone had the unfortunate happenstance of having to change cabinmates due to illness or some other thing that keeps your mate from traveling with you? Is there a penalty or is it even allowed? My mother may not be abale to go with me but my brother is interested so I don't have to go alone (which I would do in any case). I said I didn't know if any of the tickets (air and cruise) were transferable. Help anyone?

This is usually not a problem. If it is close to the sailing date, some cruise lines will charge a nominal fee for making the change (about $50). If it is before your final payment date, simply call the cruise line or your TA and the change can be made without any penalty.

I have done this several times with no problem and the fees vary by line and TA and are generally lower if your docs have not been issued yet.

It is not a big deal at all.
