Okay I am 70 plus and I need someone to teach me how to clean house. I always wonder if you start in back of house and work your way forward or start at entrance people use and work back. Paw and I finally got the sweeper run and floors cleaned and waxed. Next up is dusting. He does a pretty good juob of keeping this done in main part of house. I am working on clutter here in family room as usual. This is door people come in first usually.

Good question Maw. Right up there do you dust first then vacuum or vacuum then dust :dizzy

I thought may be this was an offer to clean house....which I hate. My plan - hire someone to do the cleaning....

Interesting question. I never actually planned it out, but I tend to start in the kitchen and work my way out from there, cleaning first the areas most dirty and most likely to be noticed by the guests. I finish all the first floor, before going upstairs to the bedrooms. The last thing cleaned is our bedroom. I figure if I don't get that done before guests arrive, I can just shut the door.

But that's only if guests are coming. Cleaning for guestsis much less thorough. The goal being to make it look clean.

But general cleaning, the kind of cleaning you do simply because it really needs it, is a different story. I never do that all in one day. I tend to do it as the mood strikes, thoroughly cleaning maybe only one room in a day. Thorough being the operative word.

Cjbee's answer raises another question... I wonder just how the professional cleaners do it. They would of course be doing it all in one day.

Does anyone here get maid service? How does your housekeeper do it?

and all 5 kids basically out of the house.. :worried..

SO it's pick things up day to day.. vacuuming as it needs, and tidying as I go.. for guests.coming to be here..=eek... I just WHAM slam through the whole dang thing.. we have a Ranch house..; and I have found it to be the best darn thing to have bought as our "retirement house" 3 years ago.. it stays spick, and span, and we are on the main floor.. and the guest rooms, and huge living room are down stairs..and they stay clean year round.. till the kids and their beaus invade for visits.:grin.. HMM.. guess I can still see how others do it..:)..Joanne

I have a lady that cleans for me once a week. Generally I am not there as she has a key 'cause she comes over every day to let Buck and Georgie out for me around noonish too. But I do know she starts in the kitchen wipping down the counters, cleans microwave, the stainless steel trash can, windexes glass tops and storm door windows, then she dusts the greatroom, dining room, Bill's TV room then the master bedroom, then she vacumms the whole house, next cleans the guest bathroom after which she mops the kitchen and tv room side of the house. Then she cleans the master bathroom and the rest of the floors on her way out the door. Most of my house is hardwood, tile and some vinyl. It takes her about 3 hours. Generally she does not clean the two guest rooms as they are mostly closed off and I ask her to dust and vacuum in there on an as need basis. I always make sure things are picked up for her. Since I have her every week and it is only Leatherneck and me generally the the house doesn't get very "dirty". The biggest job is the vacuuming of dog hair when Buck is shedding. The floors are the main reason I have her weekly vs bi-weekly. With working 70+ miles from home and that I am gone from 4:20 a.m. till almost 6:00 p.m. daily is why I spend the $$ on the service though the rate is VERY resonable for all she does with taking care of the furbabies too.

PS I forgot to say that when I first started using this service there were two women who worked as a team and they each took one side of the house and worked their way to the middle....the house is all on one floor except for an above garage bonus room that they don't generally clean. Now Eileen and Beth split up the houses and do it as singles.

I can't ususally physically manage cleaning the whole thing in one day. I kinda take a room at a time. This morning I tackled my bathroom and did a load of laundry and dishes that were soaking overnight. Yesterday I ran Henry around and had to clean him today, too. With just me here, the place stays pretty clean. Just a lot of cat hair! My weekend house guests left the guest room clean and neat, Now I just have to do the bathroom in there and then that is all for a while.

The kitchen 1st, then the bathrooms on both floors, then I move upstairs and do the 4 bedrooms and upstairs hall, then I move down the staircase, do the entry hall, the front living room, the den and the dining room. Done and pooped!!! :lol

.

I HATE housework! And working from home I notice the dirt. I clean the rooms we use most; dust first, then vacuum, then mop. I keep things tidy so it doesn't look too bad most of the time.

I had a woman come in and clean once a week for a few years, but she became more and more slack. I paid her for 3 hours work, but she started arriving later and later; gave everything a quick flick, was not thorough, and spent a lot of time yakking to Rick. So I let her go. I'd love to get someone else, but money is tight lately.

Well, I've read all the responses on how everyone cleans their house, and all I can say is "I'm exhausted and need to lie down" :lol

Maw when I get going I am a maniac and Mike hides. He doesn't move unless I ask him to help me do something....he is good at reaching the high spots.....:lol I tear everything up......every room and start spinning in circles....then I crash big time that night... My Mom is the same way. We do ten things at once and drive everyone nuts.
