Does any one know what the closest beach to the port in aruba is,,, is it within walking distance??

We decided since we are there form 7am to 1am we are going to do the banana bus explore aruba... 30.00 per person for aruba sight seeing and snorkeling at baby beach... the tour is from 9am to 1:30 pm , wed head back to the ship for a quick lunch,,, UNLESS someone has a great local resturant to recomend.... and then head back out to oranjstead to do some shopping and maybe hit the closest local beach for some afternoon sun??

SOOOOO does anyone know of any great local rest and beach that would work for us???

The nicest beaches in Aruba are west of the dock or turning left as you go out from the dock. There is one to the east at the end of the airport runway that isn't really that great, the closest one to the west is maybe a 20 to 25 min walk and it's not that bad. The closest nice beach is either Eagle beach or Manchebo beach. Both are about a 10 min cab to the west.

The road to all those beaches follow the coast. I walked all the way to palm beach once which was about 1:45min. It's only a 10 min cab to eagle and manchebo beach so I don't think it the cab price was enough to worry about.

:wave Melissa..there is no hotel at Eagle Beach per se....there are some UP the street though..:lol...and yes the refinery is in site of Baby Beach...it in no way detracts from the Baby Beach experience..=shrug kind of weird to say..but it's kind of just there..............the snorkeling is the best ever or maybe tied with Palancar Reef in Cozumel...of all the islands I've done in the Caribbean..I'm up to maybe 14 islands now.......and Aruba is tied with Cozumel for sure..:wave have a great time planning the rest of your trip...:)..Joanne.........

Cutie is right about Eagle beach. I remember now........that beach only has a few hotels across the street down at one end and the other end has nothing, just a beautiful long beach. I drove the whole island twice in one year and ended up stopping at that beach each time because I thought it was the nicest and didn't realize that I was there before till I was swimming. As for baby beach it is a long way away, at the extreme eastern end of the island, almost 12 miles and eagle beach is only a little over 2 miles.

We did Baby Beach last January and it was a LONG drive and not worth it in my opinion. The beach area itself is shallow and gentle but there's virtually no coral and almost zero fish. You have to swim out between and opening in some rocks that form a reef. THe water is somewhat rough there because there is a bottleneck effect. Once you get through that area, the snorkeling's OK, but only OK. I would definitely try a beach closer to the port. Lots of people like Baby Beach for snorkeling, though, so maybe I just got unlucky that day.
