coffee

After our 4th cruise with Princess Lines, we were very upset on the last cruise : Sun Princess,10 day Mexican Cruise January 2002. as the coffee was almost undrinkable and after we and many other passengers complained, we found out that princess was using concentrated liquid coffee that came on the ship in gallon cans!
It was unbearable and the point is that we want to know if this is still the situation or have they gone back to the normal and proper way of making coffee? (with coffee grounds and a filter!)
We need to know this before we decide on our next cruise in January 2004!
Thank you. Norman Howard

Both, Grand ,Western Carribean, 2/02 and Star, Mexican Riveria, 2/03 i've been on uses liquid concentrate in the horizon court. I was told they used 'real coffee' in the dining room.
We just had cappucino and expresso instead on crappie coffee!! It was free at diner time---Ron

Norman, are you saying you are basing your decision of sailing Princess based on their coffee? You can do what I do, I bring my own pot with the type of coffee we like. Royal Caribbean and NCL use the concentrate too. Apparently the cruiselines prefer the concentrate because it has a longer shelf life and compared to grounds take up much less pantry area, I'm sure price factors into this too. At least that was what they told us on our last cruise.

I thought I was just being too particular, but it's nice to know many others find cruise coffee absolutely wretched. Since I just like a few cups in the morning, what I do when I cruise is to bring along a Melitta one cup coffee maker (they cost around $5 and the one I have is made out of heat resistant plastic- it's not a machine or anything like that. It fits over your coffee cup), some #2 filters, some coffee grounds, and a travel coffee mug. I get room service to deliver a pot of hot water in the morning and I get sugar packages and have a waiter fill my small plastic container with half and half used in the dining room. (Or have room service bring sugar and cream and a cup.) I have my wonderful coffee in my cabin and at breakfast I just have some tea or juice. All of the coffee making items pack up so easy and it is worth it to have some good coffee to start your day. It would really be a shame for you to skip cruising for good just because of the coffee. I hope you'll consider my tip or perhaps it will inspire you to come up with your own solution. Good luck!

Hi to all you nice people who answered my "Coffee" message!
Well my Wife and I have been married 50 years this year plus I am 75 this week, plus since coming to Canada in 1957 we have been accustomed to wonderful coffee!
And believe it or not we love the Horizon Court, it is one of the important things we look forward to on our cruise!
We go there for breakfast, 10.00am coffee, fabulous lunch and 3.00pm tea and so do many many other passengers! We go to the main Restaurant for dinner! We also had 2 of the best Tea Rooms in Victoria Canada and we sold proper coffee there.(Grinds and filter!)
So if Princess Lines are stupid enough to give rotten coffee we will never go back and if we cannot find a cruise line that gives proper coffee we will change out vacations!
Cheerio.

Re the nice people that answered my letter about the new TERRIBLE Liquid Concentrated Coffee that Princess are serving!
I understand your idea of making your own coffee in your cabin, a good idea except for my Wife and I because a very important thing with us is being sociable and sharing our food and break periods with others!
Cheerio. Norman
