My daughter (20s) and I (50ish mom) are traveling to Eastern Caribbean and were wondering about this beach for snorkeling for a beginner. Anything to see in not too deep waters? Also, is it safe for us to take taxi rides?

coki beach is super for a beginner snorkeler. You should absolutely negotiate the taxi rate and even hook up with others from the ship. Do not take shore excursions as they are outrageously overpriced.

Coki Beach is wonderful for all. Coral World is right next door and a beautiful and easy way to see the underwater life in the Caribbean. There will be plenty of taxi to bring you back to the ship.

Be sure you tell the taxi driver to take you to and stop at Drake's Seat on the way back to the ship. It is one of the most beautiful spots in the Caribbean, as you are able to see most of the islands of the USVI's on a clear day, as well as Charlotte Amalie, Hassel Island and Water Island in the bay.

I have some pictures of Coki Beach, Coral World, and St. Thomas in my Webshots if you would like to see.

Coki Beach is THE beach to snorkel at. Beats St. John's Cinnamon and Trunk Bay if you ask me. Very shallow and the best place to snorkel is by the rocks on the far right. It is only about 20 feet from shore and the fish are plentyful and beautiful. Bring some small kibble dog food in a plastic bag. The fish love this. It does not Disintegrate as fast as bread.

What we usually do is plan a time to be picked up by the taxi that dropped us off - we have only had 1 problem in the many times we went with them not picking us back up. In any case there are MANY taxi's there. There are also rentals for snorkel gear, food, and great drinks. It gets VERY crowded when the ships come in so try to get their early.

Have a great time
