we're headed back to st. thomas.... or first time we went to coki... we loved the lack of crowds, the beautiful scenery and it had full service... chair rental, basic snacks and drinks. Can anyone try to sell us on changing to saphire this time?? It looked even nicer on the drive by, but more crowded.

thanks.

Hubby and I went to Sapphire Beach when we sailed the Victory in March /04. It wasn't crowded at all the day we went and a local recommended it over all the others. We're glad he did, because we loved it! It's absolutely beautiful and well named for it's colour. The snorkling there is good too

I was on sapphire beach last week and really enjoyed it. Lots of ares with shade or sun whatever you perfer. The charge for renting lounge chairs was $5.00 It wasn't too crowed. I didn't snorkel but others who did said they were satisfied. There are rest room facilites. They do sell hot dogs $7.00 and hamburgers $10. I would definately go back to that beach again.

I was at both Coki beach and just recently to Sapphire beach. My personal preference is definitely Sapphire. It's a beautiful little beach, the snorkeling was good, and as the above poster mentioned, it was not crowded at all. We really enjoyed ourselves there.

The taxi from the pier to Sapphire beach was $8 pp one way.

COKI BEACH REVIEW

We are far from experts on cruise excursions but,,,,,,, we seem to have more fun doing our "own thing" once on shore. If you use a little common sense and caution you will have a blast. When you get off the ship ask around where you can rent snorklel equipement. The town is very small and everything is pretty much within walking distance. Next find a taxi,(again use common sense. ie : if the driver reaks of reefer you might want to pass and take another) The taxi rates are posted all over the internet and if you can, find a few others from the ship to go with. Just ask around there are alot of people who are looking for someone to "take the lead" and it will probably save on the taxi !!!!! We went to Coki beach. It is beautiful, calm for kids, great snorkeling, chairs to sit in, and it's right next to Coral World, an admission type of tourist attraction. The thing about Coki beach is it really has the "island feel" to it. There are reggae dudes selling drinks and a few stands that barbecue right there. Man the food smelled sooooo good but we passed out of caution on getting sick, besides you have to leave room and time for a stop on the way back to Duffy's Love Shack. Not as cool as at night but you still have to stop and share a "volcano" drink and the food is cheap and good. You can find info on Duffy's on the internet. To round out the day....and keep the Ms.'s happy, drop off your snorkle equipment and spend an hour shopping in town. Again, it's right next to the cruise ships. If you want, e-mail me for more info and I'll share some very funny stories that rounded out our day on St. Thomas. PS: the view of St. John from Duffy's was beautiful....

We had that choice to make last time in St. Thomas. We opted for Sapphire Beach as that got many more good reviews than Coki. on our way to Sapphire Beach we passed by Coki and we were glad we decided on Sapphire. Much bigger beach and not that crowded. No one hassled us there

Actually the beach belongs the Sapphire Beach Hotel so you are using the Hotels beach.

Fodor's and Frommers tour books indicate that Sapphire is the better beach but Coki has better snorkeling.
