Confused and need help - island time and ship time, same?

I am looking into private snorkeling tours in Nassau. We are their on December 18th from 12:00-6:00. Is island time the same as ship time? When I look at the time on a weather website, it says that Miami, St Maarten, St Thomas (looking into a private excursion here too) and Nassau are all in the same time zone. Is that true? Does is change? I thought I read somewhere that they change there clocks at some point during the year. Can anyone clear this up for me because it is kind of confusing?

Thanks for the help!

Oceanfanatic,
The Ship stays on Eastern Time at the ones that leave from Miami they stay on Miami time. So no matter what town/port you are in, stay on the ship's time and you will be fine. But remember, to give yourself time to get back by the times the post for you to return to the ship or they will leave you unless you have booked an excursion thru the ship.

All the areas you mention are on EST or Miami time, therefore it it's 5pm in Miami, it's 5pm in Nassau, etc....

The only time it gets confusing is if say you were going to Belize or Mexico/Cozumel, etc....Mexico is CST which is ONE hour before EST. So the ship will be on 5pm and Mexico will be at 4pm.

Hope that helps

There's no need to worry. Whenever you are traveling to a place where time differences will occur, you'll be alerted to that in the ship's newsletter or during one of the port talks (which you can catch on the cabin television if you miss the live show). It's best to set your clock to ship's time so you'll be sure to get back from your jaunts. The only time you might be confused is when (if) you see a clock on shore. Come to think of it I have never seen a clock on shore! But I probably was not lookng for one either :)

When going ashore ALWAYS have your watch set for ship time. That is when the ship will depart. Local time could be 4 hours difference and it wont matter as long as you are on "ship time". If the ship changes time, you change time.

Have fun. :)
