Hi i was thinking of getting two connecting balconies on AOS
My question is: Does the two balconies open up to being one big balcony..

Thanks

2 years ago, RCI would NOT open the balcony doors. If they do, it will not make a bigger balcony. Just an easy access to your neighbors.

Hello Dahotone,

On every balcony I've had so far, all that opens is a panel/door in the balcony wall. It's nice to go from side to side easily, but if you are on your side, and your neighbors are sitting on their side, it won't be like you're sitting together.

Suer, I've never had a balcony on a RCCL ship before. I'm really surprised to hear that they wouldn't open the balcony doors. When we cruised with friends on Carnival, the steward opened them immediately that we asked. I wonder if this is a usual rule for RCCL?

This could be really important information to know when choosing a ship. We've have a potential cruise with friends in the very early planning stage, and I would be inclined to count that as a very big negative factor, when we consider which ship to take.

Gayle, Princess also opens the balcony door. For MOSAIC ( dahotone, this was a group cruise from this board on the Mariner) MJ asked to have the doors open for the "T"-party and they would not do it. Marlee even called prior to sailing and was told they did, but once she got onboard and asked the steward he said no :(.

JMO, but they might not open the doors anymore cause of all the people "falling" over. Kinda silly but ya never know.

It makes it so much easier when cruising with friends and they are neighbors to have the balcony door open.

I do not believe tha RCCL opens the balcony doors. I would be unhappy if they did. We have cruised with friends and have had side by side rooms and we used each others balconys.

What happens if the panels are left unlocked by mistake? Just remember that everyone that takes a cruise is not necessarily an honest person.

Hello Missmadge. The inside of the balcony doors do have locks on them, so you can lock up at night or when you leave the room if it makes you feel more secure.

[BTW, I just want to correct myself. Not that it matters, but when I said I'd never had a balcony on a RCCL ship before, I must have been having a bad senior moment. Totally forgot about the MOS@IC (how could I have forgoten that!) and the Serenade, but on both of those we didn't even ask to have the partitions opened.]

Yes, RCI opens the balcony doors. Ours just were last week on the Liberty of the Seas, & we've had them opened on the AOS also.

The partition does not open all the way, but it does open MUCH more than it does on Princess ships.

With RCI, the partition slides back & locks in position. The person in charge of Housekeeping (cabin steward's boss) on your deck has the key to open it. I have a couple pics I'll try to post:

These balconies are in Category JS, Junior Suites, #1612 & #1612.
As you can see, there is a very wide walk-through space between the 2 balconies. With Princess (and many others), there is just a narrow door that folds back and locks in place, thus taking up a little bit of the balcony space.

Sure. :) They may not do this on some ships, but for the ones we've been on, it hasn't been a problem. =dunno

Gayle Shame on you for forgetting about MOS@IC :lol

LJ, I do agree that certain policies will vary by ship and cruise line. Things change faster than I typo. But your suggestion about going to the top (head of housekeeping) might be the key :thumb, no pun intended :lol

not that it matters but on the Coral Princess they had a hook and eye to keep the balcony partition door ajar, where on the Golden we had to push a little table or chair to hold it open. We could not lock them.

The door from the cabin to the balcony did lock. Nothing was kept on our balcony that shouldnt have been there.

Nice pictures Lady jag. I think having the opening near the rail like that, really makes it seem like a much bigger opening. Thanks for posting them.

Ive been on the Liberty and Freedom....The balcony has sliding doors that can be unlocked by choice if you are traveling with a party which I did...But on any Voyager ship the balcony doors are solid....But can only be open if allowed by a higher ranking cabin steward...So its usually a fail or pass on allowing the balconies doors to open if traveling with a party....i guess for safety reasons...

But I will be sailing AOS with my family of 6....Just hope they with allow us to open up the balcony doors....I think they will I just will have ask the head of housekeeping...From past experiences RCCL never said no to any particular need that I had...:thumb

Anyone know if the Serenade balconies are able to be opened? We have a group of people going in December and would love to be able to share our balconies while onboard.
