First of all we are swamped at work. Really swamped and we had some crazy crazy dysfunctional families this week. Everyone was whooped by noon today! Tonight was the big Holiday party which I chose not to attend. At some point one of the service directors fell into a cremation hole(thank God it wasn't a casket dig)
and she kept going because we had so many services. By 3pm she couldn't walk and took her boot off. I said OMG you need to go to the clinic. No it isn't bad I said get that other boot off. She did take it off for me to compare her two feet and the old EMT training kicked into gear, I ordered her in the chair, iced it and went for my boss. This was no kidding around. The foot was very swollen and she was in a lot of pain. And her knee had been twisted also. She reported it earlier but felt she would be OK. Well she wasn't. My boss clearly upset to be put out took her to the clinic, and they hadn't returned at 5:30 when I left. I'm sure she will be on crutches with either a bad sprain or a fracture. So now we are ordering people into work on a day after a big party....yea right! They hired taxi's to bring people home no one was allowed to drive if they drank. So ...... At 4:30pm everyone got up and left to go home and change for the party..... and we had some really crazy families which I was dealing with along with 1 supervisor and one director.
At 3pm Mike called to say my meds had not arrived and I was totally out. Now that wasn't my fault it was because the bloodwork drawn before Christmas was not sufficient(4 sticks and then a collapsed vein) and I had to be redrawn when I returned this time I went to the Lab. I got the blood drawn there with no problems
and the doctor ordered my "new dosage" prescription for this weekend or so I thought. The drugs have to be maintained at temps between 35 and 45 degrees and are packed with ice packs and only guaranteed for 24 hours out of refrigeration. I called the pharmacy who did a tracking and the drugs were still on the truck scheduled for delivery. I got home still no medications. I had asked for the tracking number thankfully, and I called UPS and said please you must get ahold of that driver those meds will not be usable if they are not delivered tonight. Well he apologized and assured me the truck was still delivering but only until 7pm. At 7pm no drugs. And the pharmacy could not get insurance approval again until Monday to replace, and besides which the pharmacy is only open Monday - Friday. So I would have been off my regimine on a week when my dosage was already reduced I didn't take a mid-week injection and already showed signs of a flare.
At 7:15 just over 27 hours since shipment (the drugs guaranteed for 24) the UPS truck pulled up stopped bit left. I yelled Mike chase the truck. My car is out back it would take too long to get to. So he flew out the door and the truck must have circled and came right back. Mike waited and stopped her when she left the park but I had the drugs by then. Pheeeeeewwwwww.
I opened the drugs, inspected them and the ice pack was still frozen so I felt Ok about the integrity. But noticed that the drugs were filled at the old dosage two shots a week and at the higher dosage. Well I know my doctor told me I was being reduced to one shot a week or two shots at a lower dosage, and thus not to worry about not having my mid-week dose this week. So now......I have twice the drugs I am supposed to have and the script on the drugs clearly says two injections a week at the higher dosage.
What a wild day. Then while this UPS fiasco is going on a friend who works at another of our mortuaries called, she had just arrived at the Pepsi Center for the party and asked where are you? I said I'm not going she said get your butt dressed and down here. I said I don't think so I'm way too woomped. phewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
