Constellation - Disabled Access

I'm traveling with my mother, who is mobility impaired, on Constellation in December.

Does anyone know if there are areas of the ship that are not particularly wheelchair friendly? I'm particularly interested in the pool, theatre and dining areas.

We're staying in cabin 9164 which is wheelchair accessible. Has anyone ever stayed in a Category 1 wheelchair accessible cabin on a Millennium Class ship? If you could provide some feedback, that would be greatly appreciated.

Also, has anyone ever rented an electric scooter for use on a Celebrity cruise? If so, how did you arrange it. I'm having the travel agent look into this and we're going to ask Celebrity as well, but one can't ever have too much information : )

Thanks!

My husband and I were in an accessable stateroom on the Vista deck on the Constellation. My suggestion to you would be to rent a scooter. We did from Scootaround.com and it made the cruise much nicer. It is difficult to push the wheelchair on the rugs and over the little bumps going down the hallway. Also, it is just easier going through the doors to the pool and out onto the decks with a scooter. My husband had no trouble and my back was saved, thanks to the scooter.
There is an area in the rear of the theater for wheelchairs, etc. And, when we boarded, I went to the Matre d' and told him that my husband was using a scooter and he arranged for a very nice table near the stairway for our group. The waiters enjoyed driving the scooter once we were seated.
Our cabin was large enough to hold the wheelchair and the scooter. Be sure and bring a power strip so you can charge the scooter during the evening while you sleep.
The batrhroom had a wheel-in shower and a pull down stool to sit on. The toilet had bars on both sides, in case it was needed. The sink accomodated a wheelchair.
My husband had no trouble parking the scooter near where we sat at the pool. We are going on the Constellation again in February and we will be in the same cabin and will rent a scooter again.
Good Luck.

Judy -

Thanks so much for your excellent info. One more question about the pool - are there steps required to access it? Are there rails where there are steps?

Thanks again.

Lisa,
I'm sorry but we didn't go into the pool and I can't really remember. I looked at the photos that I took and I saw that you have to go up about 4 steps to get to the pool/whirlpool area and then down into the pool. There are rails going up and down into the pool.
I remember posting on Cruise Addicts photos of the ship which includes our accessable room on the Vista deck (7137) and of the pool. Look up. I think I listed it as Constellation, Southern Caribbean 2/21/03.
