Hello all from sunny London!

My name is Trudy and I am 36 years old. My husband and I have taken the plunge and have booked a cruise during the Christmas and New Year break. We will be travelling with Celebrity Constellation to South America

We will be celebrating our ten year wedding anniversary and had a number of questions pertaining to the cruise?

1. We are a multi cultural relationship. Please can you advise whether the ship has a variety of races and ages on board? I only ask this question as on a previous ship I was the only person of colour and did not like being constantly stared at!!
2. As it is during the celebratory period do you think it would be likely that there will be more formal events, i.e Christmas Day and New Years Eve?
3. We have booked an outside cabin (guarenteed). I actually wanted to book a balcony cabin but was quoted over $5k per person! What are the chances (if any) of being upgraded ?
4. Has anybody travelled during the Christmas break? What is the atmosphere like on board?
5. Both my husband and I are into fitness. Do you have to pay for classes such as spinning, combat etc etc?

Any feedback would be great

Thanks again for your assistance!

Hello Trudy and =welcome to Cruise @ddicts. Please feel free to drop by the community threads and post a hello in the introductions section.

No as to your questions;

1. We are a multi cultural relationship. Please can you advise whether the ship has a variety of races and ages on board? I only ask this question as on a previous ship I was the only person of colour and did not like being constantly stared at!!
I would not concern myself about that one bit. It will be a diverse crowd, although perhaps a little older than the normal Caribbean cruise because of the length.

2. As it is during the celebratory period do you think it would be likely that there will be more formal events, i.e Christmas Day and New Years Eve?
Yes, you can count on special celebrations for Christmas and New Year's

3. We have booked an outside cabin (guarenteed). I actually wanted to book a balcony cabin but was quoted over $5k per person! What are the chances (if any) of being upgraded ?
Probably not from an ocean view to a balcony :(

4. Has anybody travelled during the Christmas break? What is the atmosphere like on board?
Have not traveled over Christmas or New Years but I did travel around the 1st of December a few years back and the ship was already nicely decorated for the Holidays.

5. Both my husband and I are into fitness. Do you have to pay for classes such as spinning, combat etc etc?
Not familiar with the two classes you mentioned but there are fitness classes. Celebrity's spas are all very nice and I am sure there will be something for you. The link below has more information.

Regarding the issue of colour.... glad to see we spell it the same :) Like Michael says the pax will be diverse and you should be a lot more comfortable these days.

There will be special stuff. But I would like to add this from my personal expereince. Remember that it is the holidays and that yu are on a holiday. The staff isn't and at that time of years some folks run on a higher plain...some folks even pay a lot for that "Perfect Holiday Moment" and when it doesn't get to Perfect there can be some issues. It is even more important at this time to remember my motto when sailing.." Don't sweat the small stuff"

see " ...some folks even pay a lot for that "Perfect Holiday Moment" I read that somewhere.. :) Micheal knows abut upgrades I only got one once by accident.

4. Has anybody travelled during the Christmas break? What is the atmosphere like on board?

See # 2

sorry but my fitness schedule has me walking the stairs to ensure that the food has no calories. (it's true..try it) The M class ships have great gyms and equipment that I do know.. there are classes also but what I'm not sure

No on the balcony upgrade...unless somethng extremely unforeseen happens....but definitely don't count on it. The balconies sell out first.

Yes on the classes, they have spinning, and many other to choose from for a "nominal" fee, I think it was $5 per class...they are every single morning and they offer a lot of variety, although I'm sure I never saw "Combat"....or karate or anything like that. Just the mainstream classes. Yoga, pilates, spinning, et al.

I'm confused by the previous posters holiday comments. Perhaps they meant, yes you will get Christmas dinner, but it might not be the wonderful feast you imagine? Never sailed over the holidays because the prices are always so much higher than the week before or after. Sure you'll have a wonderful time and a very memorable anniversary.
