Sara:
I lived in Bardados from November 2002 until July 2003 and had the pleasure of taking the Cool Runnings cruise many many times. Cool Runnings is my favorite of ALL the catamaran cruises. Cool Runnings II was purchased in January 2003 so it is now only about 15 months old. It is a large catamaran that can hold up to 80 people, HOWEVER, the owner/captain (Robert Povey) never books more than 36 so that all passengers have plenty of room.
All of the catamaran cruises basically go to the same locations. Usually they stop at (I can't remember the name...) the location where many many sea turtles swim. Passengers are provided with snorkle equipment, life jackets, and assistance (if needed). You can swim with the turtles and, if desired, take underwater photos. The catamarans then go to a location where many years ago a ship was deliberately sunk for more snorkling fun.
Cool Runnings will anchor off the beach and a delicious lunch will be served. Normally it consists of flying fish, BBQ chicken, potato salad, green salad, macaroni pie, peas & rice, bread & drinks. Of course drinks are served from the moment you step on board. I do want to tell you that this menu is actually pretty much the same on ALL of the catamaran cruises.
In my opinion the one thing that separates Cool Runnings from the other cruises, is the captain and crew. They are just top-notch. I'm not saying the crews on other cruises weren't great, but I just fell in love with the Cool Runnings crew. (There is also one other captain - Richard - and he's great too!)
I could go on-and-on, but if you'd like additional information, please fee free to email me at
barbados082004@yahoo.com. I will be going back to Barbados May 6-16 and have already booked 2 cruises on Cool Runnings. My son will be getting married there on May 20 & they have also booked 2 cruises. I have many photos that I would be happy to share!
Gool luck & I hope you have a marvelous time!!
