Does anybody know if it is possible to bring your own wine bottles to the restaurant and what they charge to open them?

Yes (on Celebrity and most other cruise lines). In October, on the Mercury, the advertised corkage charge was $12.00 per bottle, but our wine steward (I can't spell Som...) only charged us $10.00. On Celebrity, if you give the bottle to your cabin attendant with your table number and seating information, it will be on your table properly chilled.

We just got off the Mercury yesterday, and I think the corkage fee was $15.00 plus the 15% tip that is added to bar bills. We were able to order wines we liked for as low as $23.00 a bottle, so for us it wasn't worth taking our own.

Yes you can bring al the wine on you would like.. There is a corkage fee, but there is a way around it .. I check the wine list of the line and then i go to COSTCO and I buy the wine they have advertised.. it all come onboard with me and then when we want wine , I bring a bottle and hand it to the head waiter or or table waiter.. Since it is their carried wine stock they open with out charge, because they do not know where i bought ... This works with champagne too.........

The reason a lot of people take their own wine on board is to drink a better quality wine then they offer on board and has nothing to do with beating the system.

We paid a $10 corkage fee on the Infinity in 2002. As stated above, a $70 bottle of wine might cost $120-$140 on board so if you have a special/favorite wine you might want to bring it along.

Generally speaking, it is consider good form to BYO a special/hard to find bottle that is not available on board, as opposed to $10 bottle that is likely to be on any wine list.

We purchased most of our wine at the duty free shop right at the dock in San Juan. The idea of going to Costco or Sams is a good one as well. Even the least expensive decent wine on board will run $25 and up. This is the same wine you get for $5 a bottle at Costco. We were charged $12 plus tip cockage fee in November. I think the $15 charge is for corkage fee in the alternative dining room. We did purchase the ships wine a couple of nights. hope this helps you decide.
