Hi everyone hopefully someone can help us we will be in Costa Maya on 4/9/04 which happens to be Good Friday problem is the Voyger is not offering any excursions to the ruins which is what we were looking forward to doing. I've searched the web and have been unable to find anything but have read on the boards that is easy to book the ruins once you get into port is this true or should we look into doing the ruins in Belize or cozmel . Thanks for the help .

Yes, this is true but make sure that the tour gets you back in plenty of time before departure. It shouldn't be a problem though - I'm sure those independent tours have the ship departure times memorized ;)

It's been a couple years since we were in Costa Maya but you could find tour offerings in the shopping area past the pier and also at the rear of the shopping area where the taxis and bike rentals are. Enjoy! :)

Wow.. I cant believe they are not offering any tours. Did you get that information directly from RCI? If not, call them and ask them. Hard to imagine they take you into port on a holiday but dont offer excursions. Thats lost money for them. The ruins there are really neat, I hope you can find a way to see them. Im sorry, I cant help you with finding an independent tour, I did mine through the ship.

From Costa Maya it takes over an hour to get there and there not much to look at.

I respectfully disagree... the Chacchoben Ruins from Costa Maya had plenty to look at, as well as climb. I would attach a picture, but I dont know how, sorry.

Thanks everyone my TA is looking into it for us . The ship is only offering about 4 tours none to the ruins and nothing that intreasts us. This after they just made major time and day changes to the intenery leaving us unable to do the dolphines in cozmel and a change in the sting ray city tour in Grand Caymen. I'm not a very happy camper at this point.. Teri

I dont know why those changes occured, that stinks if so. Is there any way to change dates to a different sailing??? Why did they make all those changes? How did you find out about it?

I came home from work one day about 2 weeks ago and found a e mail from the company that we had booked Sting Ray City thru telling us they had to change our excursion due to a change in itenery went to the RCI website and sure enough it had changed I called the TA the next day to verify and sure enough it was true. I wish we could change dates but my boyfriend is a High School teacher so we have to go when he is on vaction so that is out of the quuestion even though it's messed with alot of things we wanted to do. I'm sure what ever we do it will be better than being and home and work just tring to f igure things out again at the last min.

I really liked the ruins in Costa Maya, but Belize and Cozumel both offer ruin tours. I cant email you because your email is hidden, so drop me an email if you get the chance and I can tell you about Cozumel.

That is pretty strange that they aren't offering ruins tours on Good Friday. We will be in port the day before you on Holy Thursday and there is 2 listed - Chacchoben Mayan Ruins and Kohunlich Mayan Ruins. We are on the Granduer of the Seas.

Has anyone taken the private tours offered at the pier? Are they less expensive? Anyone with experience in this area please share your experience.

Thanks

I have said before on this board that the ruins in Costa Maya are great because of the unexcavated portions, you get to see what it was like before they dug it up. It is puzzling to me just why they built them where they did because the land is flat marshland like, so they had to bring the materials a long way and there is a lot of it. You will enjoy it, but it is not like some of the ohters that have been restored so keep that in mind.
