Anyone used rental car or taxi from Costa Maya (Majahual) to Chetumal or sorrounding areas? We would appreciate any suggestions or experience(s) you may offer.
My husband and I were in Costa Maya in March 2002. We flagged a taxi and asked to go to town. Traveled bumpy dirt roads and it took about fifteen minutes. Townspeople were working on the infrastructure - they still use hand saws, etc. Very undeveloped. Costa Maya was our favorite spot. We found a local renting horses and took a horseride on the beach, it was wonderful.
No rental cars, this is a very undeveloped part of the country! There are taxi's though. They built the pier and shops at the pier to bring in tourists, other than that there is next to nothing as far as the eye can see. Yes there is a very small town a taxi ride away. And a beach that you need to get the tour from the ship to go to.
