My husband and I were in Costa Maya in March 2002. We flagged a taxi and asked to go to town. Traveled bumpy dirt roads and it took about fifteen minutes. Townspeople were working on the infrastructure - they still use hand saws, etc. Very undeveloped. Costa Maya was our favorite spot. We found a local renting horses and took a horseride on the beach, it was wonderful. Hope you have a wonderful time!
