I don't believe that there is any dolphin swim in Costa Maya. We did the dolphin swim in Cozumel. I will tell you it was the highlight of our trip.

Snorkeling right near the pier is rough, bottom is rocky! Pretty though. Its been more than a year since Ive been there, maybe its better now. I still loved this port, many disagree with me though.

I loved the port! Sat out on the beach and drink cheap Mexican beer all day! The bottom is very rocky! Pretty place to me and I enjoyed it!:USA:AL

The port where the ships dock is called Costa Maya. Snorkeling there isn't great. A short taxi ride or 25 minute walk down the beach to the village mahahual and you will find either better beaches or cheaper snorkeling trips.

Natalie,

I agree with you. I thought that Costa Maya was a great relaxing port with a very festive atmosphere. I would rather go there than Grand Cayman. Did all my souvenier shopping there and also enjoyed the entertainment they put on at the port.

I did not like the snorkeling at Costa Maya. The water was murky and the only fish I saw were the ever present Sergeant Majors (silver striped fish). That was also the case at Cozumel. I guess I just prefer the deep (souther carib) for my underwater adventures. More fish, clearer water, and prettier ports (though the Port area at Costa Maya is very nice as I recall).

My sister went on the Dolphin encounter in Nassau and absolutely loved it. She bought the video and everything. I guess it is a matter of personal taste. I thought the tour was pretty high priced, but you do get to be up close and personal with the dolphins. They swim right up beside you and "laugh" and splash. I enjoyed seeing her video, but would probably not do it even at half-price. Just not my area of interest. But based on the video, I can tell you that the people who were doing it seemed to be having a whale (sorry about that, Flipper) of a time!

We hated costa maya
it was very boring and you had to pay for beach chairs, though the local merchants were better shopping and haggling with than in cozumel, i am doing this same itinerary again in nov, on royal carib, and i will not be getting of the ship in costa maya. the snorkeling was horrible becuase the sand is so rocky that by the time youve gotten out far enough to snorkel you needed surgery on your feet, not really any fish , and the water is murky

Once again, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I enjoyed Costa Maya. We must understand opinions vary from person to person. I think the best thing to do is to decide for ones self. :)

Go to the fishing village Mahahaul, find a little beach bar, grab a beach chair and drink cheap mexican beer and relax the day away.
